It seems like the essays that are considered good tend to follow a specific format;
- Either a hardship or some other experience that introduced you to a subject
- You worked really hard to succeed in this subject or endeavour (possibly having some difficulty along the way
- You succeeded
This is kind of what I’m talking about: https://winningivyprep.com/uc-essay-examples/
Is this the only kind of essay that colleges want? In particular for colleges that require several essays, it’s hard to write like this for all the essays. It also seems to get a little boring after a while.
Would these types of essays be acceptable:
a) you just did something and succeeded in it, without some particular motivation
b) you have had difficulty in some way but you have better hopes for the future, and here’s how
c) you have had a lot of successes and failures in an area. Nothing too spectacular but they have made a difference in how you see yourself/the world
d) your biggest strengths. Not something you have done.
e) your relationship with another person/people, such as a family member or friend.
f) other formats?
