Describe your academic and career plans and any special interest (for example, undergraduate research, academic interests, leadership opportunities, etc.) that you are eager to pursue as an undergraduate at Indiana University. Also, if you encountered any unusual circumstances, challenges, or obstacles in pursuit of your education, share those experiences and how you overcame them. (200-400 words)
The problem is, I have no idea what I want to study let alone my career plans. Is there a way I could say that I am deciding between two majors (business administration and journalism) and somehow incorporate the fact that I’ve travelled a lot?
You might just want to pick a career that you could possibly see yourself in, and focus on that one. 200-400 words is pretty short, so I’d narrow the focus as much as possible. Nobody is going to hold you to a career/major if you choose one to write about for the essay
The essay is not legally binding so I would just pick a career along the lines of one of the two you mentioned and write about that. The goal here is to get accepted to the university. Once you are in, you have some time to explore your options and figure out what you want to do.
I’m assuming you are just looking to get accepted to the University and not a Direct Admit. Even still, not sure how much the essay factors in. With such a short word count, I think they are just trying to determine if you can formulate a complete thought and sentence that would be considered at the college level.
