I started off answering the prompts and trying to create essays...but it never worked because I kept changing my mind halfway though
I think I had too many answers lol

So...I opted to create my own so I could actually finish it.
But, it's more "intellectually" oriented than personally based. Is that okay?
Also, it's long (hence the intellectual part)
it's something to do with art changing my life. (I'll be more specific to non-'14ers who want to read it)
but the art part makes it loooong combined with the personal part makes it looonger

2 pages single-spaced
now, I can delete but I want to know if I should...because the ideas kind of string together so I don't want to delete ideas for no reason.

So, to sum it up...
1) is it okay to have a less-personal essay as my main chicago essay? my commonapp essay is all about me fyi.
2) does anyone want to read my essay/the prompt I made? (Non '14-ers would be lovely)
3) does chicago care about the length? They probably do. 1887 words is just too much.

Spiralcloud- I’m a 14’er like yourself, so I by no means want to take a gander at your most likely very good essay, but I too am wondering about how long the essays should be!! I really have no idea how long I should make my own essay either. Can anyone else shed a little light on the subject?

1) You want to include yourself in the essays. It doesn’t have to be a personal story, of course, but I wouldn’t suggest writing a research paper. Something that has a nice flow of thoughts, your personal thoughts. They want to see how you think, what you have a passion for, etc.

2) I would love to read your essay; I will be attending UChicago in the fall if you care about such.

3) I don’t know if they care about length so much, but remember how many essays they are reading. You have your common application, chicago “uncommon” essay, why chicago, and favorites plus a possible suppliment essay, 2 or more recommendations, etc. My common app essay was around 600 words and my chicago essay was around 350 words though I’ve seen some of people who were accepted reach 1250-1300 each. I would not go much beyond that last number (1300) keeping in mind what I mentioned earlier about how much they have to read.
