Essay questions.

How long is good amount for the "Why Penn" essay? I know the limit is 7900 characters but i have around 5,000. Is that sufficient? If I write anymore I feel that my answer becomes a little redundant. I don't really know what else i could write about. In other words is more better?

Also, while we are on the topic, how much should i limit my Common App main essay too? It says 250 words but right now i have around 500. Thats ok right?

Thank you all in advanced.

It's always quality over quantity. For the Common App, just revise and make sure you aren't redundant.

Thank you FishFood.

also on the short answer part for the Common App. Is it okay to exceed the 150 word limit by about 10 words?

the application says not to exceed one page for the why penn essay. i think if u stay under that 1pg limit, u should be fine

Common app is at least 250 words. Most people shoot for 500-750 words so you're fine there. In general, most essays should be around one page including the why penn one.

One Page doublespaced or not. Around 400-500 words?

singlespaced

Yeah, 1 page single spaced.
I think mine ended up being like 800 words.

Your "Why Penn" essay should be fine...just don't exceed one page single-spaced.

The Common App main essay has no limit so I would shoot for 500-800 or so words. Mine ended up being 790ish.

Also, I would definitely not exceed the 150 word limit for the short answer; there's a limit for a reason. Obey it like you would a real college essay given by a professor...so cut out your extra 10 words.

@Zester: How on earth did you get your single spaced essay to be 800 words? That's incredible! I can't even fit 500 on it single spaced.. haha

When I print-preview my Penn supplement, there are so many extra blank pages (for essays), but I just attached my documents..is there any way of getting rid of these?

Nope, I had that too.

My Why Penn was 875 words...1 1/4 pages single spaced but I called Penn and they said as long as it fits in the 8000 characters it is acceptable.

My common app essay is only 350 words so I guess there's a balance between a little-too-long and a little-too-short. Not really worried about this one though, I like the way it came out and even though it's so short it's one of my better essays. I like being concise.
