So I gave my SAT tutor an essay I wrote in 50 minutes and the tutor thought it was a 21/24 (this was a few days before the November sat) and I just got my sat essay score back expecting something similar to that but I got a 14/24 much lower than expected. I don’t understand what happened I did exactly everything she told me to but it’s a 7 point difference from what she thought I would get about and what I actually got. I don’t know what to do obviously I’m retaking the essay but it was not what I was expecting at all. Does anyone have any advice for writing the essay? I understand the essay I wrote and gave to my tutor was different than the one I actually wrote but to me it’s a significant difference. I don’t think the problem was time because I wrote the essay I gave my tutor in 50 minutes which is the time limit. Someone please help me understand why the difference is so big.
It could have been a number of reasons: different environment, stress with others around you, etc. Also, did you feel that the essay you wrote for the tutor and the actual one was on the same level? Definitely discuss this with your tutor and see what he/she has to say.
Are you applying to schools that require essay? I do think a 14 is pretty low, but if your top schools don’t require, and your math and english scores are good, don’t stress tying to retake it.
