Hey all,

After taking a look at various college sample essays for the UC essay and common app, I noticed that a lot of them incorporated their extracurriculars/hobbies into them. Is it benefitial to write about these ec/hobbies or would anything slide?

For instance for my UC prompt 1, I wrote how my mother’s injury had caused me to aspire after the medical pathway.

Appreciate any feedback.

You can write about whatever you want. Writing about hobbies and ECs is fine if there’s something about them that adcoms wouldn’t know by looking at the rest of their application. But the ultimate goal is to convey something about your character, values, etc. that’s new, so anything that does that is fine.
