Is it ok to go a little over the word limit on the long essay. Say 502?

Oh boy, your completely screwed unless you can cut out those two words =(

no, i think my essay was 568 or something along those lines....unless its obviously too long, i don't think they'll mind

""

This blog should answer all word count questions: MIT Admissions | Blog Entry: "Answers To Questions Fall 2007"

The Q/A about word count is about 18 questions down.
"We don't actually count the words, so if your essay is a little bit over the limit, no one will notice. If it's significantly over the limit, however, it will be fairly easy to tell."

thanks for the quick responses!

I'm guessing 600 is a little to much, so around 550 should be ok?

mine was about 600, 550 would definitely be ok

Gosh, JagsSoccer44, how COULD you not start with <sarcasm>? Your "</sarcasm>" has no meaning whatsoever at all since you actually did not start sarcasm. :)
By the way, going little over the limit is okay, but if you can condense it, it is even better.
It's not like they use word count to sort out all the over-limit essays and discard them.
