Essay Writing Services Requested

Hello,

My son and daughter is graduating high school next year.

I am not a good writer for scholarship submittals and never wrote essays before.

Is there a service I can pay for to help my kids with how to write good essays for scholarship awards? I do not mind paying a service fee if it helps them in competitive essay writing for scholarships.

Thank you kindly.

Your kids should be writing their OWN essays. You should not be writing them. A service should not be writing them.

They should be writing essays to the prompts on their applications.

Do their HS English teacher’s work on college essays? Some do. At our kids’ high school, the first two months of school for seniors was spent working on college essay. Ask there first.

Consider asking your high school English teachers for assistance.

@thumper1 - I didn’t get the impression that the OP wanted to write them herself; rather that she didn’t feel comfortable helping them and wanted a professional to do so.

OP - I’d suggest asking the guidance counselors at your child’s school and/or private college counselors in the area. Or maybe call the guidance department at the wealthiest school in town for a suggestion. There’s a woman in my area that does this - for $200/hour! - but it’s all word of mouth. I happened to meet someone through work a few years ago who kept pushing me to use this woman once she heard I had a senior. Everyone in her area (wealthiest community in our metropolitan area) uses her, but I don’t think anyone in my school district has even heard of her.

Thanks My3Kiddos,

Yes, I rather hire the professional for the help. It is easier for me this way as I have 0 experience writing Essays.

Are these “scholarship essays” supposed to be written by the student ? If so, be careful using a ghost writer. This is not the same as grant writing.

Look under the Services section of your local Craigslist. Maybe “Services”, then “Editing”.

There is a forum for essays here on CC, which may be a useful resource:

There are books (I found many at my public library) about writing an effective college application essay.

I asked a friend who had experience in college admissions to look over my S’s first draft of his essay. Friend provided feedback and suggested a few edits that were very helpful.

@goodogirl

Is there any reason why your student isn’t asking for this help at her high school? Ask her English teacher.

There definitely are students who are not able to get the assistance they feel they need from their high school. Unfortunately, there are some teachers that are not that good at helping. Even good writers benefit from tips found in books about writing college essays - search the internet for reviews. College essays should be reviewed by someone who can provide necessary feedback and edits, so taking the finished product to a teacher for final review is a good idea.
