For the college of arts and sciences one, I'll talk abt a piece of jazz music that has inspired me to learn it by myself, and later played piano jazz in a mall

For the free topic essay, I'm gonna talk abt how playing the piano has led to my emotional release.

Will it be too repetitious if I talk about music in both essays?

in a word, yes.

in two words, yes yes.

i wouldn't worry about it. i talked about music in 2 of my essays and got in. the arts one i wrote about liszt's sonata in b minor, the big essay i wrote about how i found my niche in high school through the music program. i think mostly essays are there for the admissions committee to see if 1) you can write well and 2) have put effort into the application. Plus UVa is trying to build up their music program, so you might be able to grab a spot that way.
