A short answer prompt limit is about 250 words. My essay is about 381 words...Is that a little too much? or does the word count even play a significant matter?

My other essay prompt's limit is about 500 words. Mine is about...800... I cant cut it down anymore... It was originally at 1000+...

I once heard that anyone can write a novel, but it takes a real writer to write a short story. I’ve heard of people going a little bit over the stated limits before, but I’d say you’d be pushing it to an extreme, unless your responses are absolutely top notch and riveting.

They give the word counts because the admissions officers don’t want to spend hours reading one application. Unless your essays keep your reader hooked to the story, cut things out. I don’t mind helping, I’ve already applied.

Yeah, I figured that they would not like to spend hours reading college applications. Its just hard to cut down a personal essay. I’ve managed to shorten the 381 to 265. That better?

As for the 800 one…I think I can get it down to 650? is that okay? or I should keep it 500 max for sure?

Ok I think I may just stick with the word counts I have now. 315 for the Diversity short answer, 290 for career goals, and 650 for the personal essay.
