Estimate Admit for Stuff

Hey CC,

What do you feel is the admission rate to Exeter/Andover for non-legacy non-FA people?

15%

You really can’t say. Exeter has pretty much unpredictable admissions decisions. I think it really depends on your credentials.

The legacy admit rate at Lawrenceville is about 60%. The headmaster posted this stat on facebook a few years ago. But it is no longer up for view. I imagine that Exeter and Andover legacy rates are similar.

So to maintain an overall admit rate of 15-20%, this means that the non-legacy rate must be lower.

But how many legacy applicants could there be in one year’s applicant pool? Without knowing that, it’s hard to estimate how much impact the higher legacy admit rates have to the general admit rates. Could be a little or a lot really.

The legacy applicant pool is probably the most variable year to year. I think the admit rate for non legacy, non FA is probably anywhere from 5% to 15%

@panpacific I think it’s around 12-13%. That means the regular rate is 9% nuuuuuuuuuuu

^^ Where’s your source for the 12-13% figure? And how did you come up with the 9% admit rate?

Does anyone know the rate for siblings?

And what percentage of regular applicants are “trash” applicants (i.e. not academically qualified, pretty bad)

@Personof2017
no way to quantify that [very ignorant] remark

Only the AO’s know which applicants they want. Plus the majority of applicants are ‘qualified’ in the sense that they have strong academics.

And rly no way to create the data bc of the varying views on what exactly constituents as a bad applicant.

In the end… relax… these percentages are not going to get you anywhere. This isn’t a formula. The school knows what they want and after applications are submitted its in their hands.

Andover says that among the completed applications they receive every year, 85% are “academically admissible”. I suspect that’s about right in all top schools.
