I called admissions this afternoon and was told I had to file by midnight eastern. Just finished, hard because Fafsa site kept going down. Best estimates or 2009 figures are ok, you’ll have to redo the Fafsa online later with the correct info. For the CSS profile, print it out so you can correct it and send it to the school once you have your correct figures. Whatever you do, file by midnite eastern time even with estimates.

for some reason I have 2/1 in my matrix as the due date for UR FA. I took that to mean that you have to have it done on or before 2/1, which is the standard interpretation of all the due dates we have thus far been dealing with for apps and the like. But if admissions said it must be done BEFORE 2/1, well , they are the boss. It would be nice if they would have clarified this non-std interpretation on their website.

The deadline for the CSS and the FAFSA is 2/1. But the Financial Aid Office will accept applications sent after the deadline and review respectfully. The requirement for Federal Income Taxes is requesting ther 2009 Tax returns. If 2010 have been filed by the deadline they would be accepted instead. However, 2010 Federal Tax Returns will not be required for all students, those who they will be required for, will be notified via email.

Estimates are usually OK–in fact the directions probably tell you to use estimates.
CSS is a one shot deal, but with the FAFSA, you log in AFTER you have done taxes to input the actual numbers.

Schools will ask you for photocopies of tax returns later anyway.

Yesterday I got an e-mail from College Board (the CSS Profile guys) requesting our signed 2010 tax returns be submitted through IDOC (College Board’s Instiutional Documentation Service) by March 1st. The requesting school is U of R.

I am not sure if this is something everyone who used estimates on the CSS Profile should expect, or if it is based on a random selection.
