<p>I heard they actually monitor whatever you download. So if you download you’ll be using bandwidth and they’ll probably check what you downloaded too. My orientation counselor told me they had zero tolerance for any illegal downloading…which includes music -_-
and someone even got kicked out of school for that</p>

<p>It depends what method you are downloading. If you are using torrents they can see what you are sharing because you broadcast IP (sharing on a p2p network) when you join / download a torrent. But rapidshare / megaupload is just random http traffic and they can’t really monitor that. And with usenet, you can use SSL so whatever you download looks like random data.</p>

but the thing is, if you download too much regardless of using rapidshare or megaupload they’ll see how much bandwidth you’re using on the server and they’ll be able to see what links you used
i wouldn’t risk it

<p>well that’s the thing, I plan on just downloading the occasional movie / tv show, not going over board (30gb a day o.0).</p>

<p>btw, starbucks wifi is $3.99 every two hours… unless you have a registered gift card (that you must use once every month, and you must have at least $5 on the card) or a starbucks gold card.</p>
