Ethical Dilemma Dilemma?

Hi!

So the Caltech application this year requires me to write about an ethical dilemma I faced...

"Share an ethical dilemma that has challenged you. How did you respond?"

I was wondering if I could write about deciding not to split a research project with my partner. So basically for Intel you can't work as a group but we both wanted to submit to the research competition. I had to choose between splitting the project and potentially jeopardizing the whole thing or just giving it all even though I did a lot of work...

Does this count as an ethical dilemma?

It works. It will somewhat depend on how you spin it.

I think it could work. Whether or not it does depends on how you write it.

I’ve noticed the moral quandaries I’ve seen proposed generally hinge around the conflict of self interest and fairness. Yours has a few more dimensions to build on. It’s very similar to the prisoner’s dilemma, assuming your partner was in the same situation. You could also talk about how you were affected by the conflict being largely imposed.

If you could find more dimensions to build on I think it would make it more interesting.
