Ethics, Politics and Economics

Can someone provide some insight of this program offered at Yale?

I was fortunate enough to being accepted to the university, but in the last couple of weeks I came to the dilemma of what to major in. I have a strong philosofical side and economics always seemed tempting for me. This program seems like it resumes my interests, but I heard that its not that easy to get into.

All comments are much appreciated!

Basically, you have to be in the top half of your class and have some good LORs.

what does LORs refer to?

LOR = letter of recommendation

Don’t you apply at the end of soph year? Take classes, see what interests you rather than trying to set a course now.

You apply at the end of your 3rd semester.[Ethics, Politics, and Economics | Yale College](http://yalecollege.yale.edu/content/ethics-politics-and-economics-0) Read what the application requires there and at http://epe.yale.edu/applying-major</a> The program has a limited # of spaces, so how hard it is to get accepted varies a bit from year to year. Historically, you’ve had to be in the top half of the class, though the program most definitely doesn’t just accept the students with the highest gpa’s who apply.

You do need to plan somewhat in advance. It helps to submit a paper related to the subject matter of EP&E. Obviously, it’s a lot easier to do that if you’ve taken at least one course in which you wrote a paper appropriate for submission. Even aside from the paper “option,” it helps to have taken and done well in some of the required intro courses prior to applying and, of course, that helps with LORs. (However, again based on anecdotal evidence, it’s less important to take some of the required courses before applying if you’re in Directed Studies and have done well in it. )

Seems that I’ll have to prove myself to Yale once more…

@jonri, @entomom, thanks for the info
