Ethnicity on College Apps

I’m Filipino and Chinese with some Spanish thrown in there. I have always identified with my filipino side and being asian though I don’t look it, and I have never identified with being hispanic either.

However, recently I have heard that putting asian on your forms hurts your application. I don’t want to be ashamed of my race and culture nor do I want to take advantage of other applicants who are truly hispanic but I can’t help but want to pick hispanic on my apps for a better chance at getting into colleges.

Do colleges check your ethnicity? If so, how?

How much is “thrown in there?” Something like one of your grandparents is spanish or like your great great grandfather’s uncle is 1/8th spanish?

When you check off your ethnicity for your standardized tests, high school documents, etc., do you identify as Asian or Hispanic. Won’t it be weird if the college receives your application and sees hispanic but they get another document saying that you are Asian?
