This is a parody thread of sorts but you guys can make it serious if you want. My question to you is if you got into Eton, Winchester, Wellington and Harrow would you choose those schools over the HADES schools ? Why and why not ?

honestly, I've never heard of HADES (forgive my ignorance) or any of those others, but I've heard about HADES alot on this board

could you give me the link to the school? I can't find it by googling, it always brings up the greek mythology

HADES=
H: Hotchkiss
A: Andover
D: Deerfield
E: Exeter
S: St. Paul's

OHHHHH wow I feel foolish now...

haha no wonder i couldn't find anything googling it

although it is kind of funny because hades is the god of the underworld ><

thx

It's okay, I was very confused when I first saw it too. >< Sometimes its called HEADS, which I think is a more appropriate names.

eton is an amazing school, but i don't know. i guess i'm biased: i've been alot more exposed to the american schools (HADES, or HEADS. haha).. since i'm north american, i wouldn't go to eton if i got in one of HEADS. unless it was SPS.. i don't like SPS much. no reason, lolol (don't hurt me!)

um, the fact that eton is all-boys is rather discouraging, too. :P

Hades brings forth feelings of an enviroment that is extremely difficult to survive in... But it makes you stronger. Isn't that boarding school?

"environment that is extremely difficult to survive in" ? hmm, that sounds rather intimidating. could you elaborate, please?

I have friends at Exeter that have had to stay up until 1am to finish their homework... That happens to everyone at Exeter 4-8 times a month... This is for a sophmore. I hear Junior year is the hardest though... Maybe this isn't for your entire Exeter career. I have a friend that actually left Exeter for a year because the enviroment was so stressful.
You're going to get burned out. Everytime you pull through you'll be better though. All the schools will be stressful. I know more people from Exeter than anywhere else so my examples come from there. I know somebody from SPS that goes through the same ordeal every few weeks(She gets really stessed and has 2 days of "all nighters").

You didn't think it would be a ski resort right?

My thoughts at least.

But the only people who pull all nighters are the ones that aren't responsible enough to get their work done during the day. I know tons of people who go to bed no later than 9:30 every night and have social lives. And personally i've never heard of Eton so i'd rather go to a HEADS school anyday.

I have friends at Exeter that have had to stay up until 1am to finish their homework... That happens to everyone at Exeter 4-8 times a month

^ I do that every day in my school, which isn't boarding or even in america, as a freshman. i think your friend is making it sound less intimidating because staying up till 1 isn't really a big deal. i wouldn't be surprised if some exeter kids sleep an hour a day, though. really, if you have a decent work ethic you will finish your homework and have enough time to socialize.

Lol same westcoast.....My practices start at 6 30 and end at 8 30...I live 30 minutes away from my school. After dressing up I get home around 9:30...I eat. Take a nap. Wake up at 12 and start homework lol. Its the healthiest thing to do, but hey.

I toned it down to stop a panic. Even kids that are "model students" will stay up until 1am at least 20 times in a year. I'm not trying to scare people... But you will be pushed. Take that as whatever you perceive it.

It really matters what classes you take... IF you opt out of a sport for 1 term then you have two periods free. You won't have many late nights with two free periods. If you pass the language level(330) then you get a free period. IF you pass the math level(Pre-cal) then you get another free period.
It all depends on the schedule.

I already stay up later than 1am fairly often to finish my work at a high level, and that amount of time is me working in a concentrated manner and avoiding procrastination... This is at my current school. To go to Exeter and not have to stay up later would be awesome! But, of course, I would probably be taking advanced-ish classes (at least in science, math, and French) so it would be interesting to see how 11th graders with that type of schedule cope with their workload and how late they stay up to do their work, and do it WELL.

Are those schools British?
Are British boarding schools much different from the American boarding schools?

honestly, as far as prestige, Eton is by far the most prestigious.
come on, it's a school for the world's royal family.

but with this said, i would still go to HADES, because i like these schools more than those british boarding schools.

Well, British boarding schools offer FAR less financial aid to its students than HADES.
St. Paul's in London, the one with the largest bursary, offers 1.3 million British pounds a year in support to its students. Almost 3 million dollars. 25% of its student population is on financial aid. Half of that is on scholarships.
Exeter spends, I think, 14 million dollars on financial aid. 46% of its student body is on financial aid. No merit scholarships.

FT.com / UK - Private schools say goodbye to scholarships

And British boarding schools are really, really different from American institutions. These schools have been around for ALOT longer than even Exeter and Andover. Eton was founded in the 1400's, so, as you can expect, they'd probably be a lot more traditional and everything, and I believe that Eton offers only Greek and Latin, and I think Chinese, as its languages. And just sa juhztinlee said, it is THE most prestigious school in the world (along with le Rosey imo). Expect many, many extremely rich people from extremely wealthy families.

Paha, Le Rosey? Prestigious? Just because royals go there and it is the most expensive boarding school in the world does not make it prestigious. As for Eton, perhaps it is the most prestigious, but it will never have the most intelligent student body of the boarding schools until it is more accessible to those with little money.

Of course those British boarding schools will never have people as great as those here. Richer, probably. And from what I've heard of le Rosey, it sucks as a school. So maybe I was off saying it's prestigious. What's a better word...
