This is totally off the original topic, but I wanted to report the outcome of DS’s UWaterloo application journey. He received an email today stating that he is being considered a transfer student. His US high school is a dual enrollment program but he does not yet have a HS diploma. He accepted enrollment at his first choice US university and withdrew his Waterloo application. It is frustrating that a lot of time and money was invested and it seems the goalposts were always moving re: testing requirements, 529 $, and admissions dates and standards.
Sorry to hear that things didn’t work our for your son. Is he graduating with a HS diploma and Associate’s degree at the same time? And did he want to start as a freshman at Waterloo? My DS also chose a different path in the end.
DS’s high school is a dual enrollment program at our state university,as an alternative to being a very young college student. He won’t have an associate’s degree. He’s young and not mature, and in no rush to get through college. There is plenty of time to be an adult!
Sounds like he will graduate with at least a year of college credit, though, which might be why Waterloo considers him a transfer. Anyhow, sounds like he found a better fit elsewhere. I agree with the “no rush” sentiment, though there can be benefits to saving on college tuition and using it for other experiences if one graduates early
Update to the update: DS received an email and portal notice yesterday that he is accepted into honors co-op for both of his math choices. That was unexpected!
