Eugene Lang in New York (a part of The New School) has long been my first choice university. However, recently, I have heard that it is a very difficult place to start out. I am not from New York but I would consider myself an open minded, liberal, artistic individual, who is interested in meeting new people and new ideas. On the other hand, I have heard many rumors of students dying to transfer, and that everyone is a "chain-smoking hipster" without any real interests beyond fashion and self-obsession. While I would say that I am fairly independent, I was looking forward to a social university experience, making friends, going out, and it appears that this is not to be found at Lang. What I am basically asking is, can anyone really attest to the rumors? Is there any truth to it? I am just trying to decide if this is really the place for me- I love the education plan, the location, it sounds perfect..I just don't want to get there, discover it for what it is, and hate it. I am an idealist but I do not want to arrive to find all my dreams crushed. So please, if you have any first-hand knowledge regarding Lang, do not hesitate to share!!
