Eureka! Why didn't I "discover" these products sooner?!

^ ha!

Yes, using body wash instead of bar soap makes a HUGE difference.

I just read through this very interesting thread.

Okay all you wise cc people: In our master bathroom we have real stone tile. There are probably many cleaners we cannot use. I tried using baking soda & water & it cleaned the grout well but left a white film. Someone else said to use white vinegar & water. Is vinegar safe for stone tile? I figure it must be okay… I have used products geared for real stone but they are expensive, so I’m trying to figure out a lower cost alternative…

Would the Awesome stuff work for this kind of tile? Would e cloths work for this tile? Are the e cloths available on-line only? Forgive me if it’s already been said.

I have used Zyliss (sp?) products before and they work really well! My vegetable peeler actually comes from IKEA (I have two of the same) and they work well too. If I were to buy that product again, I would choose Zyliss.

This thread is costing me money! I ran down to the dollar tree on Friday and bought 2 bottles of awesome - the yellow one that was recommended and than an orange one, just in case it was even better. I immediately tried the yellow one on our grout in the bathroom, which has not been white for a very, very long time. I sprayed it on, scrubbed it and left it on. A couple of hours later, it really didn’t look that much better. I wiped the floor with a damp paper towel and was a bit disappointed. However, later Friday night I realized it had continued to work and the grout was white! The fumes though were quite powerful and should not be used without good ventilation.

@chocchipcookie you could try a cleaner in a hidden area, like behind a toilet to see if there is a positive or negative result.

We have brown grout…and some of it has turned light…sort of grayish. Would this orang stuff fix that too?

@thumper1 I don’t know if that would fix it, but Home Depot sells a sort of a “grout paint”. That’s not what it’s called, but it’s kind of what it is. And, you do paint it on with a narrow brush. I used it on the bathroom floor of one of my rentals and I am very happy with it. If you could find a brown that matched what you want, you might be able to use that. Let me find the link.

here it is…the pull down menu will show colors… There is about 40 different colors.

About bar soap and the scum it leaves: when I was growing up, my mother would only buy Vel soap. It does not leave a film. I continued to use it as an adult up until about 15 years ago when I couldn’t find it anymore. Wal-mart never had it, but I used to find it at the grocery store. It was great soap.

@BunsenBurner - Your post #193 “my people”. Love that!

^^Thanks, mom2ck:

But after reading post 203, I think Awesome will be too strong for what I need. I’ll just try vinegar & water and see how that works! Thanks.

Maybe the e cloths would also work…can someone tell me where they bought them? Amazon only or stores too? Thanks.

I got all of mine on Amazon, but my friend picked up some at a local store - a gifty type Hallmark store (?)…

Wondering if my issue is the same as those above and Awesome will work or not…I have cut pebble (stone) tile on my shower floor and matching porcelain tile with a dark grayish-black grout throughout the bathroom. There are whitish areas showing up on all three: the stone, the porcelain and the grout from, I believe, our water. I know this isn’t a cleaning thread but I was thinking of picking up a bottle of Awesome and seeing if it helped. Any thoughts/suggestions?

^^I’m running out the door now to do some errands, collage, but I would NOT use Awesome for stone tile. We have the same pebble flooring, etc. I would not use it since it sounds really powerful the longer you leave it on. You don’t want it to break down the tile in any way. Something specifically for stone tile is best…but they are expensive. I’m going to try vinegar & water and see how that works.

Today, I made 4 eggs for breakfast using the egg cooker. Large Costco eggs, 8 min full power in my 1200 watt MW, 2 min on the counter in the cooker, then rinsed under cold water for 30 seconds. Perfect hard boiled eggs.

Thank you!!!

If anyone has elderly parents who need help getting in and out of cars this is a great product. My in-laws bought two - one for drivers side and one for passenger side (they both need help) and it works wonderfully.

I am waiting on my egg thingy to be delivered today. My microwave is 1100 watts, do you think 9 minutes would be about right @BunsenBurner?

Oh my, emily, I can use that on my low car, when I get out on my bad knee. Winner.

CVS and Walgreen’s sometimes have some of these ‘new’ kind of products in a special store section. If I find any of the reported items there I will let my people here know.

For soft boil eggs, the comment ‘3 minute egg’ is appropriate. As soon as water is boiling (see post 184) I set my kitchen timer to 3 min. After I drain, I rinse the egg (balanced on a spoon). If eating two eggs, I leave the other in the covered pan (no water) until I am ready to eat. Depending how hard cooked you want the egg yolk, you may need to adjust.

emilybee, good share with the car handle thing. I bought that for my Dad and it worked well. He passed away and we forgot about it, but my Mom found it recently and has started using it too.

I don’t think vinegar should be used for stone!
