I have a question:
When I cook several eggs at a time, with plans to eat some later in the week or so, they sometimes get rubbery if I peel them. With the microwave steamer, what would happen if I dont peel them right away but wait til I am ready to eat the egg?
As for your bleeped out word, m2ck, you were talking about the whites, so I assumed the no-no word you used with the double meaning was h-a-r-d.
I’d mentioned that the egg cooker was available at Target a few pages back (post # 285) but its apparently only available on line.
Could we start a separate egg-cooking thread? The issue has taken up probably 100 posts(maybe more - 150? 200?) on this one, which used to be an interesting thread.
Btw, this is my julienne tool. There seem to be lots with good ratings, this is just the first one I found, at a local specialty kitchen place. I’ve only use it once and it was good. I previously used my zester, which was not as effective. With this link, you also get a recipe. http://www.agardenforthehouse.com/2014/07/zoodles-and-yoodles-with-garlic/
You really don’t boil them, just a flash saute, to keep the crispness.
Just catching up. I’m traveling now (dropping D3 off for sophmore year) but I remember as a kid, it was the rare egg that was tough to peel. Now it’s really every egg. I’ve wondered if it has something to do with a way that chickens are raised/fed now or some other difference that’s occurred over time. I’ve tried what feels like every ‘best’ method to hard boil eggs I can find. When I get home, I’m definitely going to order the MW egg cooker so thanks to whoever suggested it! (OK, now 77 posts with the word ‘egg’ in it) !
I am really enjoying the Caudalie skin care products I mentioned earlier! Both Nordstrom and Sephora carry them, so if anyone is interested to try some of the cremes, there might be samples available at those stores. I like the fact that the founder watches out for harsh ingredients and uses lots of plant oils in here products.
@jym626, I have made several batches of eggs with no problem. I store them in the refrigerator and they are just as easy to peel when cold (probably not as tasty though). You just have to remember that each subsequent cook requires less cooking time since the water is already hot. So the first batch may take 8 mins, but the next one can be done in 6+ mins, and so on…
Sorry, I think I started the brouhaha with the eggs. Promise this will be my last post on the subject. Just wanted to answer jym’s question…
I don’t have time to go back and check, but has anyone mentioned the orange citrus cleaner as a near-miracle grease stain remover for clothes? There are different names-Orange Blast, Natural Orange, etc. but I had seen reference to a specific brand here on CC awhile back, but couldn’t find it. So I bought the store brand, noting that it did had real orange oil in it. This week alone, I’ve been able to remove food grease spots from three different cotton tee shirts, two of them after they’d been washed and dried. You just spray it on, rub it in and wash it with the rest of the load. It gets out stains Shout (my other favorite) won’t touch.
When D1 was headed off to her 3rd world country, I knew there were power issues there. Looked at a number of options and liked that this one is collapsible (just bigger than a CD case,) inexpensive, and the company tries to supply them to needy areas. I have one she brought back (left the others there) and two years later, it still works.
Re: Caudalie. I love their foaming cleanser; been using it for years. Also the shower gels and hand creams. It’s the brand I pick up whenever I’m in France because the price is right. The parapharmacies and Monoprix will often have 2 for 1 specials. Unfortunately, my trips to France aren’t as often as I’d like. (I’m using up what I bought last fall).
I like a little half and half in my coffee, but the large cartons go off before I finish. The coffee at work had mini moos, but the coffee is no more. I found the big box of 192 containers at Costco Business, which are great for sharing, but it’s a lot for just me. Just found small boxes at Target 20 (?) or so containers. Yay!
Got my 6.99 cooker today, going to try it out soon.
I have really hard water with rust. My H found a lime away in gel form. Works the best of any in the shower. Also whink is best for getting rust stains out of the toilet bowl. Not sure if others have this problem but it’s a constant problem for me.
LOL, I was thinking the same thing about “comeonpeeps” name, garland! And thanks for the response, comeonpeeps, especially the reminder about the already warmed water.
Well poo. Now I want that lantern and if I hadn’t paid (“paid” being a euphemism because I had a $10 gift card so only "paid $3 and change) I’d have had $ 3 left on the gift card to apply to the lantern! Then again, last time I put a gift card onto the account, DS used it!
