Came home from vaca with a big bag of fresh peaches…my new favorite thing is that soft vegetable peeler! I can’t remember who posted about it originally, but THANKS! I love it.
Well, despite some reviews, my “thing” hasn’t exploded in the mwave yet and I finally found a recipe for the sort of pickled hb eggs I like. Nice.
I was the soft peeler recommender! I tend to do peaches in large quantities so do the traditional way by blanching http://www.thekitchn.com/naked-peaches-how-to-boil-and-122341 but I really hate peach fuzz, so if I want just one fresh one, I break out the soft peeler. It’s a great all purpose peeler!
I tried another way to boil the things. It helped a little with this batch. I used ones I bought 1+ weeks ago and added some vinegar to the water.
I did get a Kohl’s 30% off coupon code that starts September 10 so I will order the thingy. **SPLURGE30
Peach fuzz makes my ears itch. So…the peeler is wonderful when I’m just having one!
Well, I donated my egg cooker to the town rummage sale yesterday. The first 4 batches worked fine and the eggs were definitely easier to peel. And then came the explosion. One egg exploded and knocked the lid partially off which caused the other eggs to start exploding. Nothing was different about the eggs or the microwave settings so I can’t explain what happened.
I do think there is something to the steaming method so I did a little bit of googling on it. This weekend I steamed 2 dozen eggs on the stovetop and they came out great. They peeled just as well (and maybe even easier) as the microwaved ones. I put 8 eggs at a time in a single layer in my steamer basket and cooked them for 12 minutes. So it takes 4 minutes longer but I can make twice as many eggs. And I doubt there will be any explosions so I’m done with the gadget. I’m thrilled though that this whole experiment led me to beautifully peeled eggs which I’ve struggled with for years.
@Madison85 Are you putting in vinegar in the water for the standard stovetop method? or with the MW egg thingy?
I think the egg thingy would have fewer/no explosions if it had a snap closure. I haven’t had any explosions. I still think it’s a regional water thing…too many or too few minerals in the water.
Hmm, I am disappointed to hear about Grit’s egg explosion. Shortly after the gadget exploded in my microwave, the microwave stopped working. I thought perhaps its impending demise had caused the explosion. So, with a new microwave, I ordered another egg cooker to try again. Maybe that’s a bad idea.
Saw a commercial today for the touch less toilet. I think it’s a Koehler. Don’t know why I thought this was the perfect place to post this
Couldn’t resist combing the two and googling “exploding toilets”:
$18M settlement reached in exploding toilet class action lawsuit
@mom2collegekids I used vinegar in the stove top method.
Talking about toilets…Eureka…never thought to install a golf course indoors next to my toilet. Potty Golf!

Any feedback on the thingcharger yet? I want to get, but not sure if i should just try one first, or go for the buy three get fourth free.
Make potato chips in the microwave with this device! Just slice with the mandolin (included) slide the slices into the slots, sprinkle with salt and microwave for 4 minutes. FAT FREE
A friend bought one for $12.95 at Hobby Lobby - and we tried it tonight; the chips were surprisingly authentic.
But you don’t need any device, just lay the slices on a plate. Can do same with sweet potatoes, kale, etc. Saves you trying to load those slots. But yes, they are really good. And you can season the slices with anything you like. Just saved you $12.95, Madison.
And as long as the slices don’t overlap, otherwise they “cook” together!
