@comeonpeeps thanks, just ordered one…AND, I selected the delayed shipping to get the $5 offer on Prime Pantry. yay
^^Lol, I needed a filler for my Amazon basket, so I got one, too!
@abasket, my Baby Foot just came in the mail … waiting a few more weeks til I put the sandals away. Will post results!
Anyone?
I read in the Baby Foot reviews that to save money (but not time) you can try using the same goo-filled bootie on each foot subsequently in order to get two uses out of one sloughing kit.
@comeonpeeps, I too just ordered the microwave egg cooker. I go through a couple dozen hard boiled eggs a week, this will save me lots of peeling time!
@lusomedove and @comeonpeeps how does it save on peeling time
@mom2collegekids, @comeonpeeps said in her post that it makes easy to peel eggs. Mine are always a slow struggle to peel so I am hoping this heIps. I just cooked 6 eggs and it probably took me 10 minutes to peel them. I was going to use the delayed shipping but went ahead and did the two day since I boil so many.
Wow, all you need to do is a quick - not a gradient! - temperature change to have perfectly peelable hard boiled eggs. When you are done boiling, quickly pour off the boiling water, then quickly fill the pot with cold water, pour it off, repeat a couple of times until the water in the pot is cold. Alternately, you can fish the eggs one by one with a slotted spoon and drop them in a big bowl of very cold water. Let sit. Then smack each egg against the countertop and peel! Takes 5 seconds to peel.
@mom2collegekids, the peel just falls off the egg with hardly any effort. It would be diificult to peel a medium (or soft) boiled egg cooked on the stove, but it’s no problem with this cooker. Honestly, this gadget really helped me to appreciate the taste of the humble egg. It takes a couple times to figure out the exact cooking time for your microwave for the consistency that you want, but once you do, it’s pretty foolproof. I hope you like it!
@BunsenBurner, that is the method I use but they still come out horrible. I have to take my time or much of the white peels off as well. I tried using vinegar in the water but that didn’t help either. I will report back when I try out the new gadget.
Thanks, @comeonepeeps! I have not used my microwave in ages, so this at least will justify its existence - hopefully - and free up some of my morning prep time. Hard boiled eggs… yum.
What a fun thread! I decided to kick my diet coke habit and now drink ice tea daily. I always have it ready with this:

Another thing I love is a low, flat vase that holds 24 individual buds/flowers. It makes a beautiful centerpiece that always brings compliments. I can’t believe how expensive it is in the link below; I bought it for $25 or $30 on one of the daily sale sites, either myhabit or hautelook.

Re: peeling hard boiled eggs. If the eggs are too fresh, they are more, difficult to peel, even using BB 's method. The eggs I buy from the grocery store peel beautifully using her method, but the eggs I buy at the market don’t. My mother used to leave the eggs out on the counter (to get stale) before hard boiling.
My BabyFoot and my e-cloths have arrived! A question for e-cloth users – how often do you put it in the laundry? So far, i’ve been rinsing and hanging after each use, just to try to get some of the dirt off, without doing a laundry load. Do you put them in with other things? I’ve been using the cleaning pad to wipe off counters, and rinsing after each use. Should i be concerned about accumulating bacteria? i usually use paper towels, not sponges, for counters, and the e-cloth is reminiscent of a sponge in that regard. Has anyone used Norwex – which apparently has something in it to combat bacteria in the cloth (it’s more expensive).
Hand-held citrus juicer! Much more effective, easier to use and clean than machines. I have a Chef’n juicer. This is probably what i have: http://www.chefn.com/Product.aspx?id=181
I want that egg thingy, but it’s only for Amazon prime members. I guess it’s time for all that college I pay for to pay me back… What kind of deal should I look for re Amazon prime? Thanks
ETA, this isn’t the only reason for joining. I’ve been thinking about it for some time.
The Amazon reviews are probably very helpful, but I wanted to share what works for me. In my 1200 watt microwave with 4 large Costco sized eggs, I cook them for 6:30 minutes and let it rest for about 10+ minutes in the microwave. The eggs continue to cook and it makes them easier to handle since they have cooled a little. They are a perfect consistency; no more rubbery whites and green, hard yolks. I never liked hard boiled eggs before, but that’s because I’ve been cooking them wrong! I think the extreme temperatures of dunking in cold water really affects the texture of the eggs where they can get a little rubbery. I remember Geoffrey Zakarian of Iron Chef saying that eggs are the hardest to cook perfectly. My eggs are probably not perfect, but this gadget makes them pretty tasty. Can you tell how much I like this thing?
Also it’s a perfect and easy way for our college kids who are in dorms, with no stove access, to get a nutritious snack. My kids use theirs all the time.
@1214mom, if I recall correctly, my college kids were offered Amazon Prime for free as an introductory offer. If you have kids in college, maybe they can look into it?
Thanks @comeonpeeps. I know they usually have some special deal for college kids, but I don’t know if it’s always the same.
Another "as seen on TV product many I know have gravitated towards is Wen shampoo. Technically I guess it’s a conditioner, but several of my friends and I use it. We don’t use nearly as much at a time as recommended on the bottle, but it works quite well. Reason I thought of this is it’s advertised in last weekend’s coupon part of the paper for less than usual.
My trick for peeling hard-boiled eggs is buying them already boiled and peeled at Costco. Cut in half, sprinkle with capers (dribble some of the brine on the yolk), cover with Costco smoked salmon. Yummy and very quick.
