btw, any ap's taken at the end of your senior yr wont really matter, by then you'll already have sent in your applications, and you're scores will be received way afterwards

actually, they will if you plan on getting college credit for the classes....

umm, abike11, i dont think its nice to post your stats on other people's thread? Why dont you start a thread of your own? Other that that, i think you have a great chance.lol

i'm sorry but i didn't know you can't continue on threads already started

do you know how to make your own thread? if you dont i can gladly assist you.

Cryptic, your dream schools are a tough ticket. A lottery, really. Who knows?

Here's the thing, to even be in the running, you will need much stronger test scores. Frankly, I would put your effort into getting high ACT or SAT scores rather than all of the self study APs. Without a strong score on those you won't even be in the running, whereas 6 or 8 APs in total are fine for those schools.

You have a nice list of ECs, but reading it, nothing jumps out as a passion or a focus. Between your ECs and APs, you appear to be all over the map rather than having a focus on some areas that truly interest you and making a real impact in them. That's what Y and P want to see. Remember, they want a well rounded class, not a well rounded person. Successful applicants generally really stand out in something. If it's community service, they will have generally started and grown something, not have been just another volunteer. So doing something special for one organization will help you far more than being a member of 10.

MIT will mostly want to see very near 800 on the math SATI and II.

Unless you can get your test scores into the 75% for the reach schools, don't count on much of a chance and focus on the many very good schools where you will have a better chance. Good luck!

"I also forgot- my poetry was piblished on the yearly anthology piblished by the American Poetry Society. Only works of highly experienced poets are published""

r u sure it's not a scam/worthless one?

because i did it too, and they published mine

Thanks, it seems that my test scores are a problem. Well, most of the extracurriculars i am in are related to politics, and i am REALLY devoted to these (although it is not mentioned on this thread). I interviewd key politicians running for office and i campaigned vigorously. And yes, i will start my own comm serv. organisation in the summer. Thanks for your input!

I don't think you'll want to list Who's Who on your resume. It's a scam kind of thing and I've heard that colleges snort with derision (OK, I am being a little extreme) when they see it.

You may want to check with someone else though.

ONE THING: make sure you VALIDATE YOUR CS HOURS with very GOOD PROOF. heck, i dont even believe it myself.. but if its true back it up if colleges ask u rofl

asfsamurai, you are definitely right. i have my cs hours documented on my transcripts. Thanks. any more replies?

Cryptic, there is a thread of the parents board, "Who has read A is for Admissions," that you should read. Towards the end the woman who wrote the book, a former Dartmouth Adcom, addresses the situation of a val with low scores. "They always get rejected."

Do nothing but focus on your SATs.

thanks alot zagat. can you tell me a good college essay book also?

There are suggestions for good college books in that same thread. Do read the A is for Admissions book, I think it will really help you see what you need to do. I also highly recommend Gatekeepers.

hey zagat, what do you think is a decent score for the New SAT for the top schools?

I think a 2200 plus. Your other option is schools that don't require SATs. Middlebury and Bowdoin are two I think are great schools.
