My daughter (high school jr) is interested in a career as an event planning which is not a major in any school.
Career information says that event planners could look for degrees in
hospitality,business, advertising, communications, marketing,...
She is thinking it would be good to double major/or have a minor. She's interested in the creative end of event planning and was thinking of hospitality (for the business side) with a minor in graphic design or advertising. The bigger universities don't seem to have the flexibilty of combining... any advice for her.

I really am just throwing this out there for something to look into, because I don't know much about it myself, but Pitzer has an "Organizational Studies" major which might be to do with organizing events... not sure though.

Syracuse....Allows double majors across schools: Art & Design, Business, etc....

Look at some bigger schools that have some sort of interdisciplinary major program, in which students can essentially design their own major. I'm sorry I don't have any names for you, but I definitely think this would be something that could work out for your daughter, since bigger schools would have the classes available for a major tailored towards event planning.

I would say look for schools with Public Relations, this is a common major among those with an interest in Event Planning. I don't know what geographic region you are considering but the University of South Carolina has majors in PR, Advertising, or Hotel, Restaurant and Tourism Management, as well as Design and Visual Communications (among others) which may fit your needs. You can also minor is all of these things as well.

Thanks for everyone's input. My DD is also looking at an event planning degree. If anyone has additional information, please post.
