Everything about choate

Not a college team. Students apply as repeats all the time for any number of reasons. As with your last post, what are you implying? Who’s this “we?” You certainly don’t sound like a Choate student.

Yep. plenty of repeaters in the freshman dorm. Who knew? Definitely an East vs. West Coast phenomena.

Maybe I “was” a Choate student or am just someone with a vested interest… Also, while repeats are common, double repeats are not remotely common. I have never heard of a student-athlete who is about to enter their senior year in high school get admitted and transfer to Choate as a sophomore. Repeating 2 grades for athletic purposes??? That’s something you’d see at a diploma mill focused solely on athletics, not a “prestigious” New England prep school. I’m not implying anything, I’m saying it. Ultimately, this behavior damages a school’s reputation and, much to my disappointment, that already appears to be happening here.

While of course people are free to have negative opinions about a school, what we do keep an eye on is people that come here just to bash another school and for seemingly no other purpose. They don’t even have to particularly have a reason for feeling as they do about a school, but the more allegations they make that cannot be substantiated, the shorter leash they are on. Otherwise repeated flame throwing about a school becomes a form of spam, and that will not be tolerated.

I don’t mean to come across as a basher so I’m sorry for that. Choate’s a great school, with tremendous sports programs and really doing nothing different than anyone else they play on the recruitment front. I just don’t understand the emphasis in certain areas versus other areas but that’s life at any school I guess.

Hey im a freshmen applying to Choate as a sophomore next year + I have some questions about the school!
How is the food @ Choate? How is the general ‘vibe’ (atmosphere) in campus? Are students energetic and lively, or are they overwhelmed by academics? Do you get to go outside of the school sometimes (except the breaks)? How is the library (do students use a lot/is it big/)
And I have some questions about the application process. Is the parent essay section as important as the student essay section? Consider your acceptance, what was your personal achievement/strong point that made you get accepted?
Sorry for throwing all the questions to you, but thank you for giving a chance to get to know about the school!

This time lats year I was frantically scrolling through threads on CC (probably as most of you are now!) As I began my applications to four new england boarding schools.
A year later I am happy to say I am three months into my time at choate, joining this fall, and I love it.

Happy to answer questions on choate, international students, applying to any school as a junior/sophmore as I have experienced all of those
I can probably offer a lot of insight having completed the application cycle last year so can relate to a lot

Fire away!

DS can attest to food being GOOD. There is lots of variety and you are not limited to one choice of entree.

DS is home and I am now asking him about your other Qs. . . DS says students are more energetic and lively than overwhelmed. He said many walk off campus and go into town regularly and there are alot of scheduled trips off campus and a great Student Activities Center and Director.

Not alot of students study in the library. It is big, however not as big as say, Exeter’s. DS says it is mostly used by people trying to get better wifi. Wifi continues to be a challenge at Choate. Most students study in their rooms during study hall.

We have no idea how admissions weighed parent essay, activites, etc. in the admission process. We never asked and they never told! However, I did spend a lot of time on the parent essays. Of course the student essay section is more important as that is required (vs. optional parent statement)!

I hope that this helps you, @hillchoatelville

for those interested in crew, ENJOY!
