everything is fine, except for my EC.

My ECs arent impressive enough for the schools that I want to go .However,I do have a passion on everything that I'm doing now. Can I put this into my application essay so that the colleges will notice that I'm not a ''nerd'' at all???

My EC is really horrible, even though I do have a job to support my low-income family + I'm ONLY living with my siblings,so i have to take care of myself.

don’t think that just because you’re not a part of 10 thousands clubs or have a resume filled with ecs that its considered impressive. if anything i think you working to support your family and taking care of yourself reads more impressive than someone who has the free time to get involved with things that really don’t deal with their needs for survival.

“My EC is really horrible, even though I do have a job to support my low-income family + I’m ONLY living with my siblings,so i have to take care of myself.”

Working a job (any job including very humble ones) to help support your family, and having such responsibility for yourself is considered by colleges to be the equivalent of an outstanding EC. You are demonstrating an unusually strong work ethic, a great deal of independence and maturity, and an ability to overcome challenges.

Make sure that on your app, you let colleges know about your living situation and job. It even may be a good subject for your essay.

Also ask your counselor to talk about your family responsibilities in her/his school report.

^^wow that really surprised me… :)

I’m in the same situation. How do you go about notifying colleges of this? Do you have to send a supplement?

I mean, if you’re not going to write about it in your essay.

If you’re, working a job to help support your family, you include that in the “jobs” part of your app. You can elaborate on it in the extra info part of your app. If you’re living with, for instance, siblings or friends and are supporting yourself, you can include that in your extra information part of your application. Either situation also would be a good essay topic, and would be far more compelling to admissions officers than the essays on topics like, “by participating in an expensive volunteer opportunity abroad, I learned people are people” or “how losing or winning the big game taught me about life”.

You also can ask your GC to include such info in their report.
