Exaggeration of essay/EC importance?

I went to Barnes and Nobles today on my lunch break and read the Academic Index(AI) from the book A for Admission from Michelle Hernandez( I read this book along time ago, before my kid got into middle school and forgot half of this stuff). Here is where the ranking comes into play besides the SAT I and SAT II scores. The formula is ((SATI(V)+SATI(M) divided by 2 + SAT II(3 subject tests) divided by 3 + CRS) = 240 MAX. Note they only use the 2 digits of SAT( like 800 = 80).
The CRS which is computed by the system technician at the Ivy leagues and they are bounded by Ivy League rules book to implement, please get a copy of the book to get more specific details. The ranking system below is what would be used, in absence of any specific ranking(from 1-4), then they are defaulted to ranking system #5. At least that is my understanding( sorry I was in a hurry to get back to work).

Exact Rank

Decile, quintile, quantile rank

Weighted grade point average (as provided by the high school)

Unweighted grade point average (as provided by the high school)

Unweighted grade point average (as computed by the System technician)

This explains why the students from my school that have perfect SATs and perfect GPAs would be an automatic admit unless they rock the boat and do something stupid like getting caught smoking weed on campus. Because they would have AI from 7-9. The ones with AI from 3-6 are the ones they have to rely heavily on ECs.

My school use system#3, because it takes into account of the difficulty of the course work in the GPA that is supplied by the school.
