Exams!!!

So, post away on your exam woes!

I had my AP Bio and PAP PACE (Intership) exams today. I have AP Eng tomorrow morning and AP Comp Sci AB on Friday. I opted out of AP Phys, AP Econ, and AP Calc BC. Half-way complete! rock on!

I have aviation psychology and ops research on Friday and German on Tuesday. 3 finals isn't bad here, but the 3 and a half day split between the 2nd and 3rd is a bit annoying.

I spent 3 hours tonight tutoring behavioral sciences. Tomorrow I'll be studying.

Don't expect me to post much for the next couple days (although I probably will anyway).

Hope everyone else "enjoys" finals.

I have...

Nothing

Until January...our first semester extends 3 days after christmas break for finals.

I have 4 Exams, Calc, IEA (Intro to Engineering Analysis), Chemistry, and Economics. I think my hardest is going to be Chem, which I have in 4 hours. Speaking of which, I need to study.

Oh fun...sorry, that's all I have time to write... :-)

Four exams, in two days. History and Chemistry, then Social science and calculus.

Thursday was Java program turned in (got 95% on, so i got a 98.75 in the class :-P)), and thursday was also calc test. It wasnt a final, just a test over the last chapter. It was a true blessing. He gave us rather easy questions that could have been a LOT harder. Plus when he printed it out, he forgot to grab the last page which had two somewhat harder problems on it. He didnt notice it until the first few people left so he couldnt give it to us.

Monday is chem test. Same as calc, its not a final, jsut a test over last chapter. Tuesday is english but i just show up and turn in a revision of a paper.

Next semester starts in January on the 17th so i have a nice relaxing break.

hornet guy: how can you 'opt out' of exams!??!?! UNFAIR x9327492841!!!

had one on friday & swim, tomorrow econ & calc (oiy vay, there will be no sleep tonight), english & orch on tuesday, bluechip dinner tuesday night, adn spanish on wed...yea..that'll go real well

all classes are AP (minus swimming...yes, i'm in an 'ap' level orchestra, number 1 in the state! YES SIR, and first chair in my section :), plus, i get ap music theory throught that)

Our school is coll/uncool about exams. Most of you prob know that public schools receive funds based on attendance most of the time. So, our school has a program where if you miss 3 or less days in a class and you have an A average for the semester (2 absences for a B, 1 for a C), you can "exempt" it (so your grade is based on 3 six weeks grades instead of 3 six weeks and a final). Freshman have 1 per semester, sophomores have 2 per semester, and juniors have 3 per semester. We can't exempt the same class twice 9-11 grade. Senior year we have 3 exemptions in the fall, and we can exempt them all in the spring, regardless of what we exempted in fall. For me this is a life saver. I have 7 AP classes and the hard work I put into my difficult classes paid off so I didn't have to take the worst finals.

Katy ISD > Plano ISD. :D

o psh hornet guy.....thats just because Katy ISD is scared out of their mind that their kids will be failing and scores will be low :)

Plano kids kick it in the grades...i can't even begin to tell you some stores...ahah, actually, i will :) there was one kid coming out of my physics class before me, the previous class before mine, and the boy was bawling...like freaking out & crying..i swear, he would've flooded the school! anyways, we asked what was wrong & he goes "I GOT A 97 ON THE TEST! I"M GOING TO KILL MYSELF!" our teacher was like "are you mental?! 97 is the highest grade on this test!" and the kid would just keep crying about how stupid he was and how that would mess up his class rank yadda yadda.....

way to go katy isd, kickin it in the 'just to be safe' mode....while plano is making impossible exams that are 293847 times harder than they should be, we still get A's :)

haha, just joshin ya, :P but i still think thats a very...iffy way of handling exams, just to be safe for school rep?

we get senior 2nd semester exemption under some pretty tricky rules O_o

lol. Nono, the system actually works well. People don't miss school. (Well, my sophomore year we had an epidemic of flu the news covered cause everyone kept coming to school lol) Personally, I think that part is iffy because of sickness. I went to school with pneumonia, that didn't last lol. But, grades are high. Freshman year, my school was ranked number one public school in Texas. :D And I know the whole crying cause of the 97, we have ridiculous kids like that, mostly the Asians lol.

School rep wise, KatyISD is known for excellent academics. Even our "ghetto" schools have high scores on TAKS, SATs, and college attendance rates. Plus we have grown enormous. In 2000 I think we had something like 30,000 kids, now its almost 40,000. 8 new elementaries, 3 new junior highs and two new high schools in two years. Neat, but sucks for the people going there, our newest school in the district is the largest in Texas, makes me laugh. I'm in the districts smallest school (2800 kids) and its nice, the other schools are ridiculously huge. Have to run to classes. HAHA!

I love the exemptions though, good reason to bust butt and do well, I mean, the top half of the class cut off is around a 3.1 GPA! But I can see how in most places it wouldn't work.

But enough with the rulers, or whatever it is for girls. lol. We should just be glad we are fortunate enough to be in high reaching schools! You will be prepared for the Academy for it, and I can hope it will help my get in lol.

One more question, are your AP's limited? I know some places are, my school doesn't, which makes staying in the top 10% a real pain for tons of people.

Hornetguy, do you go to the school is Katy that just played South Lake Carrol for the state football championship and lost?

In Lubbock, we have to take all the semester tests, there aren't any deals or anything. The semester counts for 10% of the semester grade with each of the 3 6 weeks counting 30% each. It kinda sucks like in my English class, it's rediculously hard and only 4 people out of 120ish have an 'A' for the 3rd six weeks. I have a 90, 91, 91 for each of the six weeks but then I still have to make an 84 on the final to get an 'A'. Her semester tests are rediculously hard and the class average in the past has been right around a 57-60 so it will be majorly hard to keep an 'A' and move up in class rank.

I hate Tess of the D'Urbervilles

Our finals are 25% of our semester, so its a relief to get out of them!

My school is the second oldest in Katy, Katy HS actually played Carrol (original school in Katy). Kinda bummer they lost, fun to watch their games! My school consistently places in Tennis though. :D

yep, ours are 25% too

places? guess who's tennis team wins every year? :), and lacrosse, might i add :) ahah, school spirit is so funny sometimes.

aaah....my english lit exams awaits me tomorrow.....darn you.

This is yours right? <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plano_West_Senior_High_School%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plano_West_Senior_High_School</a>
Mine: <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katy_Taylor_High_School%5B/url%5D">http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Katy_Taylor_High_School</a>
We stopped getting state champions in Tennis in 2002, but we still go to state every year. Bleh, its your school that knocked us out!

<a href="http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/highschools/topstories/vitindex.html%5B/url%5D">http://www.dallasnews.com/sharedcontent/dws/spt/highschools/topstories/vitindex.html</a>
lol, Southlake killed Katy, o well!

This cracks me up. But we need school spirit! lol.

Hum, there's a TKD tournament in Ft Worth in April, I might go as an excuse to find you North Texas peeps. Kinda far from Plano, but I'd make the trip!

How fair is this? There are two major public high schools in my school district (the third is for disciplinary problems, etc).

The OTHER school allows exam exemptions - like some of you mentioned. MY school, on the other hand, not only has a more difficult grading scale (according to some of my friends at the other school), but we aren't allowed to exempt anything. Now tell me, does this seem fair? It seems to me that everything should be consistant across the district...

In the past, my school got a bad rap for being the "rich kids who do nothing except smoke weed" (which isn't true as far as I can tell), yet this year we have 9 National Merit Semis compared to 2 at the other school (both of whom transferred there due to our wonky districting and transfer policies).

Sorry. That was a little rant moment. But I'm SOOOO jealous of those of you who get the exempt from exams!
