Excelled in MCATs without any prep courses?

Anyone on CC who excelled in MCATs (>=37) without any Kaplan or equivalent Prep?

Please post the following -

MCAT score-
Strategy and Materials used for self study-
How many hours/months of prep-

Aiming that high is setting yourself up for disappointment. The MCAT is not an easy test to crack. But yes, of course it is possible to do well without prep courses. In fact, I would argue against the prep courses unless you are the type of person that absolutely needs material presented to you in a lecture format. I found the prep course to be absolutely worthless. Most of my studying came from reading the books provided by Princeton Review.

I used Kaplan personally, but a friend of mine studied using ExamKrackers and Kaplan books. She reviewed material for a month, and then spent the second month focusing on practice exams. She ended up with a 37.

Judging by the responses here, guess everyone is taking prep courses.

I bought the book from the Kaplan course and went through it myself. No 37, but I don't think that would have happened regardless of my prep method.

My son just did practice exams. Got a 41.

^ holy guacamole. Where did he end up going if you don't mind me asking?
