Exceptional kid

For UK your Class 12 Final Exams scores are very important. You get provisional admissions. CBSE is definitely recognised by UK colleges.

Also one can apply to only 5 UK colleges through UCAS unlike unlimited US college applications through Commonapp.

anialways;: it is maximum 20 for commonapp

BChanakya,

So 20 by my definition is unlimited, just too much money for applications…@ $70 = $1400 @ 62/- = 86,800/- Bahh…add courier charges to this…

@anialways, have you ever known any student who got an offer at Oxford/Cambridge/Imperial with AP/CBSE scores?
(All 3 accept AP scores, btw)

I know a few who went to Bath and King’s College from CBSE and some who went to Warwick from IBDP. I am personally not aware of but my D might know about Imperial/Oxford/Cambridge admits.

anialways: Is your daughter studying in the UK? Or US/India?
What kind of offers to CBSE kids get? 95% up in all subjects or something?

My D is a Junior at Stern,NYU - Class of 2015.

She was able to save 4 credits worth of Writing the Essay (WTE) a mandatory class for all freshmen by using her SAT Subject English score. And was able to use the Math Subject score to place her directly into Calc 1, thus saving her another 4 credits, or she would have to start with Linear Algebra and then move on to Calc 1. Just missed Natural Science requirement by 20 points- her Bio Sat Subject score, could have saved her another 4 cedits.

Also this might be of help,

[International Qualifications - University of Oxford](International qualifications | University of Oxford)

In order to make a competitive application to Oxford, students need to have already achieved, or expect to obtain, one of the following qualifications with the grades shown, or another equivalent.

“India - Year XII qualification, studied with either the CBSE or ISC examination boards, with an achievement of 90% in each of the five subjects studied. Science subjects may also require that candidates take the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) entrance examinations as a pre-condition for entry.”

For reference sake you can take a look at King’s College’s requirements for students from India.

http://www.kings.cam.ac.uk/sites/default/files/admissions/indian-qualifications.pdf

And with regards to SATs and Subject SATs,

‘We do not make offers on SAT scores, but in addition to SAT I or ACT we encourage candidates to submit three SAT II subject tests (our students’ individual scores are typically above 700).'

anialways: Thanks for the links!
Stern , Wow! (y) She was from the CBSE?

She was in CBSE till Class 10th and then switched to IBDP in Class 11 and 12.

Ohh, alright.

@journeyinwards just dont concentrate on these relic spotter, research paper are some serious stuffs and can gain some serious confidence that you can get into ivy league colleges.

@anialways: I knew that ISC was considered, wasn’t sure about CBSE. My board is definitely not considered, though. :frowning:
I applied because I’ve heard of at least one case where a student from a state board school was given a conditional offer. (By Cambridge, though, not Oxford.)

‘We do not make offers on SAT scores, but in addition to SAT I or ACT we encourage candidates to submit three SAT II subject tests (our students’ individual scores are typically above 700).’

Umm, if you don’t mind, can you please clarify what this means? I’m a bit confused. Is SAT Reasoning Test + 3 SAT Subject Tests enough? Am I a valid candidate? I have 720, 800, 720 in CR, M and W with 800’s in Math 2, Physics and Chem. The international qualifications section you linked to (thanks for that, btw  ) seems to indicate that it’s okay to apply with these scores. I’m pretty confused.

@journeyinwards: Yeah, I’ve registered for the MAT. I’ve seen some past papers and I feel pretty comfortable with the subjective format, I’m hoping it’ll go well.

@akietta, thank you :slight_smile:
@confusedhexagon Yes, you are valid. You satisfy the min. entry requirements.
And, what offer did the person from your school get from Cambridge?

Not my school. I was referring to Tanvi Cheda (not sure if that’s the correct spelling) from Maharashtra state board. A friend of mine told me that she got a conditional offer from Cambridge but finally went to Cornell. I’m sorry, I couldn’t really understand your question. I also don’t know what the “conditions” in a “conditional offer” usually are. (My guess would be minimum STEP score, or something like that…)

Oh yes. She’s from Pace. I know what her offer was like:

  1. <2000 rank in the IIT-JEE
  2. Some grade in the STEP
She rejected the offer because she went to Cornell with the Tata Scholarship.

I see. I think the math departments at Oxbridge don’t expect JEE ranks from Indian applicants. I’m not even taking the crazy thing. :p

She wanted some Engineering course.
Btw, have you marked APs as pending? I’m guessing you might get an offer on AP exams if you’ve marked them.
And, who’s your referee?

No, I don’t think I’ll be able to take AP’s as they’re held in May and usually clash with the IMO Training Camp. I asked my 11th grade math teacher (she was also my class teacher) to be my referee. She’s also one of my recommenders for both Common App and MIT.
