Exchange year in the US (from france)

Hi everybody !
I'm Laura and next year, i'm going to do a year abroad (It will be my third year in Sciences Po, a university in Paris).
I really want to go to the US. I'm interested in a university in the South (Califorinia, Arizona...?), of Floride, South/North Carolina ?? And I also want a university which department of communication is good.
Is someone here can give me some informations or advices ?

Thanks in advance !

Laura

I almost forgot… The partnerships with my university : [Etats-Unis | Sciences-Po International](http://www.international.sciences-po.fr/fr/etats-unis)

what campus are u from? :)

I’m from Sciences Po, it’s a university in Saint Germain des Pr

Well greetings from Menton then

sorry I cant help u

study in arizona or north carolina

Well, I’m from Chapel Hill, North Carolina and I know that UNC-Chapel Hill has a very good communications program (3rd in the country or something like that).

So that would be my suggestion, hope that helps.

Is your attending a specific uni dependent on someone from the US uni going to Po? Are all your expenses covered?

Looking at your list of schools and your mentioned major, I would choose Northwestern. Top notch in your major, well, just about any major offered there.

Your school has partnerships with some outstanding colleges and some less challenging schools. I think you need to consider what you want to get out of your exchange year. If you want top notch academics, consider the small liberal arts colleges on your list, especially the women’s colleges - the academics at these schools will be equivalent to the Ivy league - but the faculty and staff are more supportive than at a large university. If you want a more laid-back “anonymous” experience, a larger university would be better. If you choose a school with less challenging academics you might be able to enjoy your social life more since the academics won’t take up as much time. Since you go to school in Paris, you should consider whether you want to go to school in a city in the U.S. such as New York, Washington DC, Boston or New Orleans or whether you would rather go to school in a college town where everything is centered around the college or university. Good luck! It’s fun to see someone coming to the U.S. for study abroad for a change. I spent a semester at University of Paris Jussieu in the '80’s.

Arizona State University has one of the best communications program here in the US, you can also try University of Arizona and Northern Arizona State.

But if I were you, I would go to California (I am from california, and it is beautiful here…well depending on where you go) we have a lot of good schools with communications like Univ. of Southern California, UCLA, San Francisco State, Saint Mary’s… San Diego State and University of San Diego are great with foriegn exchange students.

UCLA. Campus is gorgeous, great weather, and a solid communications department.

[Welcome To The Communication Studies Department — Communication Studies](http://www.commstudies.ucla.edu/)

In addition, the French dept. is outstanding, so if you just feel the need to speak French from time to time, you will have a lot of students wanting to spend time practicing their French with you!

Thank you everybody !!!
I have sent my applications (my first choice is the University of Arizona).
I hope I will get a positive answer :)

As a European-American I have to say there is a difference between university in America and France. Here, communication and political science rank low on the totem pole in terms of reimbursement/graduate incomes at least. Also, remember that 80% of your American colleagues are racking up debt while they go to school! It’s good that you want to go to Arizona. The coasts don’t give you the experience of the real America! The reality of suburban America is really different from what you hear in the International News or what you see in Hollywood movies or on American TV shows.

You’re right. I don’t want to go to the Coasts, I think Arizona is a good compromise. It’s not a very competitive university (perharps i’m wrong, i don’t know the ranking), but it’s a very sunny place and the campus looks beautiful. I won’t go there with a very high academic expectations, my first priority is to improve my english, to know more about the US and to try out the american campus life.

Hey Laura!

I happen to be a University of Arizona student, and I came across this forum because I want to study abroad soon =)

I hope you love it here as much as I do. What time of the year will you be getting here? The summers and springs are quite hot–(up to 120 F or 48 C). It will take some getting used to here. Falls and winters are gorgeous (around 75 F or 23 C).

The University of Arizona is gorgeous and has a lot to offer. It’s also 2 minutes away from downtown, and you’re only a couple hours away from Phoenix. If you’re here while I’m here, send me a facebook message, I’d love to show you around!
