After reading through some other school forum areas (Boston U, Loyola, DePaul, etc.) Everyone appears to be insanely excited about getting in, is there anyone excited about Minnesota or is this just a blah school?

Junior in high school, but University of Minnesota- Twin Cities seems to be interesting. Although from what I understand it may sorta lack a campus feel, and it looks more like a summer camp than university... or at least from what I've seen.

For me it's not that I'm excited about getting in (it was like an incredible safety for me) but I am really really really excited about hopefully going to UMN. Theoretically I kinda "go there" right now because I take classes there, but I feel like it's not gonna be the same feeling. I'm excited for orientation, getting to know my roommate, finally being on campus ALL the time, joining all the awesome clubs. I guess maybe I'm just excited for college in general, but I love the vibe of the U of M. I'm a city girl converted into a suburb girl, and I feel like I fit right in at the U. If I want the city feeling I just take a bus to Minneapolis (there's so much to do there) but if I want to feel relaxed, the campus is all nice, green and calming. And if I really want a chillaxed atmosphere I could always go to the St. Paul campus, I hear it's amazing for that.

Do you think University of Minnesota- Twin Cities feel/look like a summer camp? That's sorta the mode/ vibe I got from it, which is why I second question it being a safety school for me. Michigan State University ( top choice) is greeny, and similar architec to University of Minnesota- Twin Cities and by no means does it feel like a summer camp... same for University of Michigan ( second choice) though it sorta lacks the great campus feel you have at Michigan State University.

I'm not sure what you mean by summer camp vibe. Could you clarify a little more?

Does Minnesota have that same intense school spirit like you find at UW-Madison? I just got home from a Badger hockey game tonight and I realized I want that major spirit and pride you see at every sporting event and around campus. Does U of M have that? Or should I just go to Madison?

Well that was a turn off for me having University of Minnesota- Twin Cities as my back up school... due to the feeling of a summer camp. I mean I like universities that are large, greeny, many trees, etc... like Michigan State University, although from University of Minnesota- Twin Cities it kinda rub off a different feeling... as if I will be summer camping. Like one of their dorms I've seen of theirs, looked like a summer camp bunk. It was shocking, somewhat like a culture shock people get when moving.
I came to this conclusion base off what I observed, so maybe the feeling there is completely different.... just probably haven't seen enough.

I think every person just probably has their own way of perceiving the campus. For me it's the complete opposite. I love the view of the Minneapolis skyline in the morning, but then as I walk to my classes I also see the amazing buildings that are exactly what I imagined a college to look like. Makes me feel more adult and sophisticated, haha. I think it's all about what areas you like and spend time in. I don't have much experience with the superblock area, but I could imagine how that would feel like a summer camp. Or maybe the St. Paul areas could have that feeling too just because you feel like you're out in nature if you wander away from the main areas.

My one piece of advice is to take a Campus Connector (the red/white/yellow buses that say 121) or a Bridge Circulator (122 I believe) and just ride them around for the full circle. Together these two buses take you to most of the important places at the U (except for Dinkytown, so you'll just have to walk there) Since I know my way around the campus pretty well I've done this to give tours to my friends and they really liked it because they could see the places not usually shown by the official tours.

Oh, and jotajota, I haven't been to that many Gopher games this year, just 1 football game and a couple of hockey games. But the people do get into it, especially in the student sections, and especially at the hockey games. But like I said, I don't have that much experience so just attend one and see how you like it. The hockey games are only $15 if I remember right.

Not because the nature of the area, but more of it's architec and style. Like many dorm rooms look more like a summer bunk camp than a university dorm. Again I like trees, greeny, nature, etc.... Michigan State University ( would be a example) but University of Minnesota- Twin Cities is different. Yeah but probably have to do with the way people pick up their own sense on campus.... good school though.
