Exempt from Application Requirements?

I think I already know the answer to this, but it's worth a shot!

I'm considering committing to a school but the only problem is that they require the SAT II and I haven't taken it yet. The school goes by likely letters (it isn't an ivy but is private) and I would need to get one before I can commit, but I'm pretty sure I can't get one until I take the SAT II (My other stats are way above the schools average).

This creates a problem because one of the other schools I'm still considering doesn't require the test, so I wouldn't want to keep them waiting until October when it would be too late for them to get another recruit to fill my spot. I like the school and it's definitely my number two, but I obviously don't want them to know they are my number two (if i go there i don't want them to think i'm "settling", i want them to know i'm excited to go there).

So, here's the question: Can being a recruit exempt me from the SAT II requirement? and if not, is it necessary to have a score before I can receive a likely letter? Especially since my gpa, rank, SAT/ACT, and extracurriculars make this school almost a safety. If you need to know the specific school in order to judge, you can PM me (I don't want to post it for all to see)

If you can't answer, thats alright. I just didn't want to burden the coach with these questions to create excitement about committing when I'm not 100% ready to commit yet.

Thanks for all of your help!

some schools ( such as Brown) accept the ACT in the place of the SAT and SATII combined. See if this college is one of those. If not, you will have to take it!

Thanks!

I thought that was probably the case but just wanted to see if there was a chance it wasn’t!

You probably can’t get admitted without the SAT II, but you probably can get the likely letter.

Most colleges usually have an admissions liaison for athletic recruits. Call the office and ask the coach’s secretary for the phone number of someone you can ask. Don’t be afraid to ask your questions: you aren’t bothering anyone and you have every right to be informed.

Thanks for the help, Bessie. I called the coach and they said that the website makes it ‘unclear’ but the SAT II is only required if submitting the SAT I scores, so if I submit just ACT I’ll be fine. It’s apparently a fairly common question for recruits looking to commit early, since most people don’t take the SAT II in their junior year.
