Exeter's essay topics left a lot of room for creativity and I was just wondering, since most people applying for exeter are probably finishing up with their applications (if not done- they're due in just 10 days!) would like to share what they wrote about if they thought it was a particularly interesting response? I think it's amazing how all the essays will be so different, and I'm curious as to which topic was the most popular!

I chose to do the "Write on a topic of importance to you", and wrote about the little things in life. I also am in the process of doing "A topic or activity you are passionate about" writing about competitive swimming.

I wrote about a moment I felt successful/challenged/overwhelmed and how I handled it. I wrote about the first time I ran the 4x800 meter relay, and how my coach spoke to me in an amazing way- he was proud of me. :)
And also, my favorite word. Won't go into that one, because it's ridiculous!

my s did the moment he felt challenged and how he overcame it about a whitewater canoeing trip he did with the scouts. I honestly think it was an amazing essay. Then the passion one about ice hockey which was an ok essay.

I expect that Exeter admissions staff are too busy to hang out here, but if they did they could figure out who you are. I encourage you to be protective of your identities---you wouldn't want them to find a post that says Andover is your first choice!

From what I understand alot of Google searches are done crossing all information that raises eyebrows... This is done by: Turnitin: Home: Welcome to Turnitin

That just does the essays I believe. I was told that by my College Guidance Counselor. He might be wrong, but he said he was 90% sure that they do.

Hm, I guess that's a good point. Although I'm not too worried about the whole Andover scenario as Exeter is the only school I'm interested in so it's the only one I'm applying to :D Besides, if you think that SSAT scores are a little part of the admissions process, how do you think your posts on College Confidential would compare.. hahah

I did a nice short creative one about my favorite song which I think shows a lot of personality, then a long one of something important to me which shows a little more passion. I think with the exeter essays its good to have a balance so you can actually FIT everything onto that one piece of paper.

I thought about passion and importance, but how can you possible fit that in that piece of paper? To topics where there is WAY to much to right about.

We only had to write 1?? I think I need to get my eyes checked or something lol. But, I wrote about my favorite song. Meant to Live by Switchfoot if you're wondering

i explained the experience that happened to change my career goal to producer and director. it was a fun story to tell since i remember it so vividly

any topic of importance to you: the greatest summer I ever had. Which isn't as shallow as it sounds.

and I dont know whether to pick between a topic you are passionate about and a moment where you felt successful/challenged/overwhelmed, b/c the s/c/o moment was basically this entire application process and everything that had to do with it, and I don't know how that would sit with Exeter. I have drafts for both of them, actually.

As for how they’re doing today, what you can do is click on the individual names (next to their posts) and then (when a window opens up) click on “Find More Posts by XXX” to see if you can find something they posted more recently. It’s been a while since I’ve seen any of them on this board, but it might still be possible to track them down . . .
