Exeter Laptop Question

We need to purchase new laptops for our kids starting at Exeter. Should we purchase MAC’s?

For the most part, no. Unless, you have a Stipend, you shouldn’t get it. I currently have the 2017 MBP with touchbar, and a dell. After two months of using both, I found myself using the dell. I find the Mac to be limiting. Firstly, you can’t even plug in a regular USB, and I was forced to buy an attachment that converted the MBP thunderport cable to USB. Plus, MBs usually have less GB than traditional windows computer. Plus, if you want to buy a GB extended on your MB, it may cost an extra $60 off Amazon. If you are considering to buy a desktop, don’t. It is extremely inconvenient as you are mostly traveling around with your computer, and it’s difficult to do that with a desktop(whether it be an Apple or Windows). Overall, if money is not really a concern, and you can afford a $2000 ish computer with a solid amount of GBS, then sure MBs are good with school as they are generally lighter and easier to carry around. But if money is a concern, you can buy a dell laptop for like 800-1000 dollars which will have at least 800 GB, while Apple computers have around 256 GB. Plus, dell computers or HP computers around the 800 dollar range usually has a better integrated graphics card( good for any classes involving 3D drawing or something of the sort, and a much better processor(will run faster).

My son has a macbook air/pro or something like that. Never had any issues. It seems like most kids use them

MacBook Air is what we got! We have had dells, hp and macs in the past and I would never buy anything but a Mac again. If you get the air, they have t changed the ports yet so they have regular USB I belive.

It really boils down to personal preference. IME, most kids have some type of Apple product (not that you need to get what everyone else has), but there are others who swear by their non-Mac. It’s totally up to you/your kids.

Honestly, it really boils down to your kids preferences. One of mine loves his Asus computer and our daughter loves her MacBook Air. Both work equally well at Exeter. 2 in college love their MacBooks too.

I have a Macbook Air. I’m selling it to get a new one though because it’s kinda small, so if ur getting one I would advise the 13"

We decided to purchase a Macbook Air 13" for both. Thanks for your help everyone.
