Exeter Q&A

Longtime PEA parent here- no clue why the reference was made to college admissions and being a musician. I can tell you that many kids are musicians at PEA and gpa level has no correlation. College admissions is a whole different conversation, but being a musician can only enhance your applications all things being equal. As far as revisit day, she will only need a backpack if she prefers to being a notebook , sweater, water bottle etc and chooses to carry them in such.

@ProudDramaMama I don’t understand that comment, either. My son is a musician, and is able to balance lessons, practice and a small ensemble commitment with everything else he does. His roommate is also a musician, and is a member of one of the performing groups that went to London over spring break to perform. There are wonderful opportunities for musicians at Exeter - the music building is fantastic, for starters - and while it can be difficult to juggle multiple large time commitments, learning to prioritize and compromise is a great lesson. My son chose a less intensive musical commitment in order to accommodate his athletic and EC commitments, and so far, is happy with his choice.

From the Andover thread I read that students are often unable to sign up for the classes they want - does that usually happen at Exeter? And what subjects does it affect?

@HappyCria why believe the smurfs? :wink:

@HappyCria never happened for any of my 4 kids over many years, unless they missed the window to sign up, they have gotten every class they wanted. This includes basics like math, science as well as electives like Ethics of Silicon Valley or lifeguarding.

Thank you @vegas1 and @momof3nyc, you have eased my mind. That comment threw me, as it seemed to imply that doing music at PEA would somehow be a detriment to a student’s GPA. My impression until reading that had been in line with what you shared. We are delighted that music is valued there!

@ImWaisian hey!!!

@ffsophiar whoops :wink:

If we are new students (obviously) committed to Exeter, will we get our exeter.edu emails after April 10?

@ImWaisian They sent it to me yesterday - you will probably get yours sometime soon.

@HappyCria I can’t wait! Did they email it to you?

@ImWaisian Yes, with instructions for a course survey, so keep your coursebook at hand.

I feel like this is a really dumb question but… if you’ve accepted already, how did you accept? I figured there’d be a link or something in the acceptance email but it only linked to Experience Exeter.

Check your spam - you should have gotten an email “Exeter Admission - Online Enrollment.” In that email is a link, username and password.

Ah, thank you. There it is! I was getting paranoid that the acceptance email was a mistake. ?

Just Wondering. If I were to request a boys dorm, what dorms are the best?

@SquashPlayer123 Whichever dorm you’re placed in is the best dorm! :wink:

How is the weather at Exeter right now? Is a winter coat necessary? Would a light jacket suffice?

@HappyCria I’ve finished the survey! Will I be receiving placement tests soon? Also, is it just me or are the LionLinks for new students blank…

@ImWaisian it depends on what day you will be here. Today it was gorgeous and our daughter was playing spikeball in shorts. Looks like maybe it will snow Friday. You probably won’t need a big winter jacket either way, best to dress in layers. A fleece with a rain jacket over it should suffice as it looks to be rainy later this week.
