Expelled to Ivy League...should I report him?

There was a guy in my magnet high school who got expelled. And this week, my sister’s friend who’s literally maybe this guy’s only friend, tells me he’s at an Ivy league school.

Just for reference it’s nearly impossible to get expelled from my school - there’s people that get into fights, smoke in bathrooms, even someone who bought a gun to school (hunting rifle in his truck) and none of them have gotten expelled, except this guy.

The school did not tell us exactly what he did, but did say he hacked into places he shouldn’t have, and strongly hinted there was some sort of extortion involved. Hacking or whatever is a big deal, but the reason he was expelled is because the school was scarred of him.

Grade wise, the guy was really smart and deserves to be in the Ivy he’s in (don’t ask - I won’t say which).

But, according to my sister’s friend, he’s 99.999% sure he didn’t tell colleges he got expelled. Honestly don’t think any school would touch him with a ten foot pole if they found out. Second, sister’s friend is 90% sure he’s lying to schools about his step dad’s income to benefit from scholarships or financial aid or what not. Third, my sister’s friend is 50/50 on if he’s even still in school. She thinks he might have dropped out.

I feel like I should notify the school?

Does anyone know who I should contact at the school?

You don’t know the whole story. Inform the GC and let them handle it. Otherwise, stay out of it.

Nobody likes a snitch. Stay out of it. You don’t have all the facts. At this point it’s 3rd party speculation and hearsay. If you do rat him out and it turns out to be nothing or it causes him hardship it opens you up for libel/slander lawsuits. I know it’s not the society we live in today but before you make accusations you better have proof and even then is it your place to be the moral police?

This falls into the category of MYOB. You want to tattle on somebody about something you have no first hand knowledge of? If I have this right, you want to contact a school regarding a rumor about a friend of your sisters friend? Just typing that makes it sound petty and wrong, IMO.

Have you ever heard of the game Telephone? That’s what this sounds like. Why is it your business anyway? It’s entirely likely that you don’t have all the information. The guy might not be at an Ivy League. And would it matter if he was at State U? If he was expelled, his high school surely would have informed his college. That’s a big deal.

There’s a lot of speculation here about a third hand story that is not the OP’s kid, immediate relative, or even the OP’s problem. Closing.
