experience needed?

I am interested in majoring in classics but i have no experience with latin or greek. Do colleges teach these languages or are they required? how hard is the major? is there a lot of essay writing?

go check out the college you will be attending first.

No, there are introductory language classes at probably all colleges with a classics major. For classics majors, usually at least one language is required (quite a bit of it, depending) but for other majors like Classical Studies, there is a lower language requirement. I would say there are probably a fair amount of papers, since the other courses you'd take are more history and philosphy. Plus, once you get into higher level language, you'll have papers in those courses too.

thanks! does anyone know how hard it is to recieve A's in the major because i want to go to medical school? Is a classics major easier than a biochem major? What if I double major in classics and biochem?

Depends on your strengths. Classics is much harder than biochem for someone who can't learn languages well. I would say classics is about as easy as your profs make it. No way to tell, really.

which is harder: latin or greek?

greek. Many more forms, fewer cognates, different alphabet, more different dialects...

what are the tests like?

Well in intro greek, there were a lot of basic grammar questions to start (like decline this noun) and some easy translations. After that it's mostly larger translations, scansion (in poetry), syntax questions.

thanks for your help rabokarabekian
