experience or degree?

Let's say you've done a 1-year internship in a specific area of engineering most of the time (let's say EE), but you're completing a program in a different discipline (let's say Meche).

Will you have an easier time finding an EE job or MechE job?

Probably still easier finding the job with your degree...but many jobs are very cross-disciplinary so you could get them with many types of engineering degrees.

Thanks dr_reynolds.

Let's use the same student as our next example, except he now has 1 or 2 years of work experience as an EE. Will the answer change to my original question?

It depends on what your current degree and standing is.

I mean--its easier to teach an engineering major another engineering field as opposed to something completely different. Still I think that most employers will look at that EE degree over 1-2 years of experience--with the EE degree they have an idea of exactly what you have learned.

IF you are trying to get a technicians position--one that does not need a general engineering foundation but instead specialized work, the experience will be a factor. Yet--even with 2 years of experience it'll be hard for you to get hired as an engineer without the EE degree.
