What’s the typical scenario for a semester abroad for undergraduates? What year(s) are they offered? Do you have only semester options, or perhaps shorter periods of time? If you have experience with this topic, please share.

Does anyone have something to offer on this item?

There’s lots of info on study abroad here:

About 40 percent (and the number is growing) of students go abroad mainly their junior year, although there are some special programs that are offered first semester senior year. Students go for both for one semester or the whole year, and if they can make their case, even 2 different places over one year. Some students also do programs over the summer. It’s something you would apply for during sophomore year. I know many students who have memorable experiences in England, Spain, Jordan, France and other places. Personally, depending on where you want to go, I would recommend looking into direct enrolling at an institution instead of going through an abroad program and needing to pay Brandeis tuition, but that also depends on what your financial aid status is.

My daughter graduated Brandeis in 2007-she along with practically all of her friends did a semester abroad. My daughter was in Europe but she had friends who did programs in Asia, Central America, South America, Israel, Egypt. One friend did a Brandeis sponsored summer program in Berlin. My daughter also had funding from her department towards summer study in her major.
