I know Ivy league coaches get slots. When they have filled the slots they have with admissions can they still support an athlete and help get her in? Any experiences with this?
It may vary by sport or school, but one Ivy League coach told me that once he reached his recruiting limit he was powerless to help an applicant in any way.
The number of LLs, or LL-eligible supported athletic recruits, is controlled by the Common Ivy Agreement. A second level of support beyond the LL/slots allotted would really undermine the Agreement. For that reason, I’m of the opinion that there really is not any meaningful admissions support for athletic recruits in the Ivies beyond the slot/LL.
And whether a coach gets “slots” at all varies by sport and school.
What they all said. Although there are those here who are convinced otherwise, I believe @varska has the right of it.
I’m usually the one who pipes in with a contrary example at this point–but the “soft” or post-slot support I know of is very limited–the instance I know of was a push that (according to the family) got a waitlisted student admitted. That said, who really knows what happens in the admissions office? At any rate, in our family’s experience, Ivy coaches are honest about the kind of support they can and can’t give, so I’d direct questions directly to the source.
