OK so freshman year I did so-so, some As and the rest Bs. Sophomore year I did worse- I had almost all Bs. Junior year I did really well, all As and a B+ in a AP that I got a 5 on anyway. I have a very challenging senior year scedule.
The issue is that now I want to get in to some fairly competitive schools (Lehigh being my top choice) and my first two years have really hurt me GPA and class rank wise. I only have a 3.4 and am about 27/208 in my class. I did well on my SATs, CR 800 M660 W730.
The reason my grades were low in 10th grade was due to my struggling with an eating disorder. Though I'm past it now(thank god!) I want to mention it on my application somewhere so the admissions people don't think I was jsut lazy or something. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to put that on an application, short of writing the essay about it(I don't want to dwell on it, just a few sentences explaining)?
Thanks so much for all your help!!

Don't worry, you should get into Lehigh. Your grades aren't bad for Lehigh in light of your awesome SAT score.

Perhaps consider asking your GC to write a letter explaining the situation.

your best bet is your GC.

you probably could write an essay though---not the eating disorder per se, but if you are going into medicine, psychology, sociology, related fields then maybe you could write your essay about mass media image, its influence on society, and that you would like to explore ways to reduce its influenece, etc., etc. and put in a little sentece or two on your personal feelings toward it. this could supplement a short letter from the GC too.

Talk to your GC about it. The simplest thing is probably just to put a note in the additional info section that says you were struggling with some personal/medical issues that year, but they have since been resolved and your academic standing has returned to its previous level of excellence.

thanks guys, the GC thing is a good idea... i just don't know who to ask! the woman who has been my GC for 3 years wont be there next year (maternity leave). she wrote a rec for me because i want to go ED. should i ask her, or whoever my new one is going to be? the new one is the one who will fill out the app forms, i think...

Ask your old counseler...email her or something. She knew about your situation and can probably explain it much better than the new one.
