I am majoring in Physics with an Applied Concentration at my school. This essentially is dependent on the electives that I take in my Physics major. I am hoping the Applied concentration will help me get engineering jobs in the future. “Physics with an Applied Concentration” is kindof a mouth-full, it may require an explanation, and takes up a lot of space on job applications. I am wondering if strictly speaking one can say
0: “I have a degree in/studied Applied Physics”
1: “I am majoring in Applied Physics”
A: Is this misleading, dishonest, or “unofficial” in any way?
B: Would an employer ever feel mislead?
At least with anything written, write what matches what the school has recorded your major as, so that when an employer verifies your academic record, it will match exactly. The same goes for GPA at the school if you report it.
Unfortunately my school doesn’t have it and I am too far into my degree to get an engineering bachelors right now. I am thinking about a masters though. Interested mostly in propulsion research though.
If you’re able to get an internship, etc. that will help.
But when you start playing with the perceived truth, even if you’re doing nothing dishonest…it can be seen as bad.
Your resume will be looked at by artificial intelligence and it may even be matched up to your transcript that many companies ask for. So it should be the same.
btw - unless you’re applying to small firms, it won’t matter.
Recruiters will see engineering as engineering. They are not necessarily engineers - so unless they understand that engineering is physics heavy, they won’t make the connection.
There are jobs out there looking for engineering or physics majors and perhaps at those you’ll have a better chance.
To answer your question - list your actual major and not a substitute one.
