Exploration Floors 3NTAC & F.A.M.E.

Hi, everybody! I’m going to NYU in the fall and I really want to do an exploration floor, but I’m torn between the Theatre Arts Company at Third North and For All Musical Endeavors at Brittany.

Honestly, I like the sound of the theatre floor way more just because it would be amazing to have scheduled Broadway shows and plays and hang out with a lot of thespians and musical theatre dorks. However, I’m not sure I like the look of Third North’s dorms, how far away it is from campus considering I’m usually a roll out of bed and run to class girl, or the cost. I love how Brittany looks with the new renovation, but I’m not as interested in the exploration floor, though it would still be cool to go to a lot of concerts.

Does anyone know anything more about these floors besides what it says on NYU’s website, and how about the people (RA’s and residents), events and cost? I’d appreciate anything you guys might know, I could really use some help deciding!

D did Third North Theatre Company in 2012 and loved it. They never put on any actual shows, but did go to see some Bdway/ off Bdway shows as a group and went out to dinners that were all sponsored by the Explorations floor. The group was very cohesive and really became a group[ of friends. She is a junior now and her best friends/ roommates are from that Exploration floor. She loved living in Third North and liked having a common area in the suite to hang out in. But the rooms with a kitchen are more expensive than a traditional dorm. She still got the same meal plan, but you can get a smaller meal plan if you decide to cook.

Their were a lot of Film and MT majors on her floor. But also kids from Gallatin, Stern and Steinhardt. D is a studio art major, but was heavily involved with MT and choir in HS. She continued to take voice lessons though Steinhardt. The explorations floor was a perfect fit for her. Because there were a lot of creative kids, she was cast in a lot of their student films, which allowed her to be both an artist and performer at NYU.

I lived on FAME several years ago, and I thought it was a lot of fun. We actually had a ton of theater/MC folks on the floor, in addition to the expected music people. There was a ton of floor bonding, and people’s doors were almost always open, and I still keep in touch with people from the floor after graduation. We actually have one couple that met on our floor that just got married. I will say that a big part of the quality of an explorations floor depends on the RA. My RA was pretty great, and we got to go to concerts, etc, and other music related things. Brittany is also much nicer now than it was then due to renovations.
