Explorations?

Thank you so much kyang! that was really helpful :)

I thought of two more questions and if either of you are able to answer them, it'd be really helpful!

I love theatre and film equally, do you think I would be better applying to All The World's A Stage or Big Apple Big Screen? (I thought All The World's A Stage because being in New York I imagined there'd be more exciting things in a theatre based one, but if you don't go to broadway shows anyway...)

and

The reason I asked about whether the focus was on discussion/analysing of actual performances or how "From the moment we wake up we are always putting ourselves together in ways that often feel like we are actors starring in our own feature films...we will consider how performance is a vehicle that we can use in defining our own identities" (the description on the NYU RE site) was that I'm thinking of what to put for the answer to the "give an example of an activity you would plan for our community" question on the application form. Which do you think I would be better to focus on?

Hope that last question made sense. Let me know if it didn't. And thanks in advance, so helpful!

I am an incoming freshman at NYU-Stern, and am very interested in both the FAME and Visionaries programs. Does anyone here know much about the former...I am a bassist, but does everyone in FAME have to play an instrument? How loud is the floor? Also, what is the party atmosphere at Goddard...I know it isn't Third North or anything, but is it cool? What sort of kids do Visionaries?

Thanks a lot, for any responses.

jenny: Your 2 questions focus on what you want to do, and we really can't help you with that. My best advice would be to really think about whether you want focus on film or theater. Good luck, and I hope you have a great time at either exploration.

requiem: In FAME, I don't think it's specified that you have to play an instrument, but everyone on that floor is music-oriented, and if someone isn't, then he'll be kind of left out. The floor is not so bad, we don't hear them all the time (I'm 2 floors above them). It's not exactly a party dorm, but we get out and have fun. We definitely have our share of drinkers/smokers, and it's not boring (Third North isn't that great. Unless you like being woken at 3 am by some guy pulling the fire alarm). Visionaries, lots of Sternies (I am a Sternie too). They're kind of loud...a little too loud, if you ask me...

please answer this with best of your knowledge:

what is the application process for goddard? (i dont see them on the regular housing app..) and is it really worth it? (do you always have to be involved with these?)

Thanks a lot, kyang....big help. I'm defently very music oriented, but I wasn;t sure if I was going to be able to fit the bass in the dorm room. I may still try and go for Visionaries, though, even if its loud...I'm hoping that the floor has some fun, and there will be more Sternies. One question: is the program hard to get into?

And I don't want to end up in Third North, thats for sure, though U-Hall looks pretty solid.

Thanks again.

jhpark - from what I see here, it depends on the program, but you don't always have to be involved if you have other priorities. It is incouraged, however, and for most of the programs it doesn't seem to be too much of a commitment, though that depends on the RA and the program. You can't get into Goddard on the regular app, you have to apply on the explorations app, and if you get into an explorations program it trumps the rank of dorms you would have otherwise selected.

I was thinking about doing the Gotham explorations at Goddard or the Big Apple, Big Screen at 3rdNorth. Does anyone know which one's better?
Why doesn't anyone want to go to 3rd North?

Third North is the largest dorm as well as the party dorm. Overall, it is also in worse condition than University Hall. However, it seems to be pretty popular overall, the dorms that most people seem not to want are Weinstein and to a lesser extent Brittney.
