I have already been on a normal tour of campus but I am planning on going to Explore Carolina in April. Has anyone already been to one of the earlier dates? How was your day/what did you do? I am really excited!

Also, I know online it says you may only have 2 people other than yourself. Does this mean I absolutely cannot bring another person- my younger sibling? My parents don't really want to leave her at home, they both want to come with me but attend different events so we can compare notes afterwards.

Hey Jadexx! I’m going to the one on March 19th, so I will be glad to share you my experience once I attend it. But I’m sure there are others on this forum that have already been to the one on February and would be glad to share their experience with us. I’m excited too!

We attended the Explore Carolina session in February with my daughter and found it to be very helpful. I think it was what tipped the scales in favor of Carolina for her. You can print off the agenda for the session date you will be attending (agenda varies by date) and tailor your day to what interests you. At each hour time slot there are different offerings throughout campus such as: classes you can attend, information sessions by each school/discipline, study abroad info session, financial aid info, clubs info set up in the student union, model dorm room you can visit in Craige, etc… and at each time slot you choose to attend what interests you.

Your day starts at the Alumni Center and they provide coffee, juice and pastries, give you a map and explain how the day works. They also give you arm bands that allow you to eat in the dining halls on campus or at Granville Towers for free. I think the 2 person guest limit is based on the lunch passes. If you think your younger sibling can keep up (because there is a lot of walking involved) and you don’t mind paying for 1 lunch, then I think it would be fine to bring him/her. Just keep in mind that it can be a long and tiring day if the sessions you choose to attend are spread out all over campus.

My daughter was unsure of her intended major so we attended several info sessions by different departments and she felt very confident in her choice of a major by the end of the day. We were impressed with the faculty we met and are very excited for her to attend in the fall. We got lucky and the weather was warn and sunny and the campus was beautiful - even in February. I hope your day at Explore Carolina is as helpful as our was. Best of luck!

Explore Carolina was a very good experience for our daughter & for us too. The previous post has good info about it. It is a hectic day if you take full advantage of it and is informative and very meaningful. There is little formal structure to the day so it is up to you to make the most of it.

We showed up for the event with one of my daughter’s friends who did not get a chance to officially register for it because it was full. We acted like we knew what we were doing and were never asked about it. Our friend got all the benefits, including lunch!!

They do a good job of spreading the sessions throughout the campus so you can get to know it, therefore, study the map and plan out your day accordingly.

I went on the 19th, and I am so glad I did. I went in as a Bio major, and came out with a Bio-German double major, and I found out that I get an automatic Chem minor. I learned so much about the research opportunities, the lifestyle, and the people. Everyone on campus was super friendly, and the cafeteria was quite good. I got email adressess from students that are willing to answer more questions. I had one hour free, right after the welcome session, and I took that time to literally explore. I dropped my parents off in one of the buildings and walked all over north campus. It was still pretty early, and the campus was quiet and beautiful. After my day, I was absolutely sure that Carolina is the place for me. In other words, GO! I wanted to stay on campus forever. I had plenty of time to get from place to place, but map things out and plan your day in advance.
