I am going next Monday, but am curious as to what to expect. Share anyone?

Thanks minniemouse! I’ve been searching for something like that!

Failsafe: My experience was sooooooo great! It made me fall completely in love with the school! Now we can only anxiously wait as the send out the scholarships!

jordynjulia: Same with me! urghh this waiting a month is torture

Dear Jordyn and Bubblewrap,
There are parents and students who are making plans to attend EXplore USC. Could you give us some impressions of the two day event? What did you enjoy? Were the professors enthusiastic about you possible incoming freshmen? Did you meet other congenial students?

What was your impression of the campus? Were other students you met friendly?

How was the interview? Did the interviewers appear interested in you? Had they read your application?

Please share comments…if you wish.

Of course! First, you will find yourself very tired after the weekend, because USC plans so many different events for you to go to and I really recommend taking advantage of them. It starts out with general workshops that you can pick and choose which to go to, such as Financial Aid and Thematic Option, as well as tours. I really enjoyed the presentation on Thematic Option - go to it if you are at all considering it (and they gave us food!) The Welcome is really fun and makes you feel like a part of the Trojan family, which is nice.

Then we broke off by major/school and were given tours of the facilities, which was really nice to get an in depth look at exactly where you personally could be studying next year. After that we had a short presentation about the programs offered, and then 3 students came to talk to us. That really made an impression on me, as they all really loved it there and were very open about all of their experiences.

I honestly did not really get a chance to meet many other prospective students as we were kept so busy, but I would have liked to. After that we got matched with our hosts. My host was sweet, but not very talkative, so the night was a little awkward, but I still really enjoyed it! We got my luggage then went to dinner, and afterwards were invited to a rehearsal of Anna Karenina. I really enjoyed not only being able to see one of the opportunities I would have at USC, but also watching the process of how they put the show together, very impressive. After that, I went with my host to a Theater Students Association planning meeting of just the leaders, which was awesome because I got to meet more theater students and learn even more about the opportunities at USC.

Finally the interview: I had heard from a friend who got the Trustee in Theater last year that the panel was really harsh and interrogating, so I was expecting the worst, but I was luckily proved completely wrong! It was two theater professors and the assistant dean, and all of them were so welcoming and encouraging and just really enjoyable people to talk to. They made me want to come to USC even more and I even wished my interview could have gone longer. I got the feeling that though they had read my application, they hadn’t gone over it so many times that they weren’t interested to hear me talk about my various activities and involvements.

Hope this helps and if anyone has any more questions please feel free to ask!

I went for the Trustee interview last year and had the same experience as most are detailing. This year I was invited back, but this time for InteractiveEntertainment within SCA…and they didn’t really ask me any questions except what I knew about the program and if I had any questions of them. The two admins basically just told me a bunch of details about the program. Was the least interview-y interview I’ve ever had! Not sure if that’s a good or bad sign, just thought I’d let people know!

I definitely agree with bubblewrap on the experience we had throughout the day.

You are going to be exhausted especially if you are traveling from anywhere further than the midwest (aka ME). The day was really long, but everything you did was completely worth it. I recommend the financial aid session and the walking tour of course.

The welcome session was great and really made me feel like the faculty cared that I was there.

After the welcome session, they ship you off to your individual school sections. I’m in the College of Arts and Sciences, and the professor who spoke to us was beyond amazing!!! I was in complete awe of how much he loved his job. It made me want to attend the university just for his freshman biology class. Hands down, one of the best parts of my experience.

Unlike Bubblewrap, my roommate, and her whole floor for that matter, was so nice, welcoming and sociable. I spoke with plenty of current students, and all of them had nothing to say but fantastic things about the university. I went to the USC basketball game and had such a blast after eating dinner. We went back to the dorm after the game and bummed around and talked until like one in the morning. I had so much fun, beyond great!

The interviewers had my application directly in front of them which was super intimidating for me. Although there were some interrogating questions, for the most part, they were really nice and I felt like they just wanted to get a feel for who I really am. Not something to stress over I don’t think.

My guardian attended and had nothing bad to say about the events he attended separately from me, but we didn’t talk very much about his.

In all, the experience was long and tiring, but so wonderful and amazing. It truly shows you how great the university is. I am praying that I get this scholarship, because I would love to go there!

QUICK REPLY!! are parents required to go?

no 10chars

I attended the first session of Explore USC for Trustees Scholars this year. Does anyone know when we find out??

What were the three different dates for the Presidential scholars? That might give us an idea of when to expect the scholarship decisions.

:]

We just attended the last Presidential Explore last week and they said decisions would be mailed about two weeks later. I am expecting they will be mailed around the 25th.

@NC Mom,

ugh, I really hope that’s an exaggeration, I don’t know if I can wait two more weeks!! i was really hoping this week before I go on vacation… oh well. Does anyone know if NC Mom is correct, or was USC just saying 2 weeks to keep in line with the april 1st deadline?

Apples and oranges.

sdesail, NC Mom is talking about the letters announcing the results of the Trustee/Presidential scholarship interviews, which have traditionally been mailed (slim, business-sized envelope) the third week of March generally between the 24th and 27th.

And you are asking about admissions decisions. The rumor is that Los Angeles-area packages (9 X 12 envelope stuffed with info) will start arriving this Friday the 18th. Good luck!!!
