Has anyone been to this tour? This program consists of representatives from Harvard, Duke, Stanford, Georgetown and Penn. Did you think it was worth of going? I know they travel to several states. What is your feedback?

Haven’t been but I signed up! I’ve been to another one with several of the ivies. It’s basically just shortened info sessions

There’s a similar one with Yale, Brown and MIT. Same thing – all give brief presentations about their schools. Later they split apart and speak to the throngs. If you feel you need more info to apply, then go. If not, then don’t.

One of my take-aways from this tour, which we saw four years ago, was how strikingly similar the presentations were. Each of the Admissions Directors had about 15-20 minutes to speak, each showed pretty pictures of their campus – Stanford with palm trees, Harvard, Penn and Duke in the fall with the leaves turning, Georgetown with the Capital in the background. Every presentation basically said the same thing: All our professors teach undergraduate students, all professors have office hours and are approachable, all seek a diverse student body, all put your child’s safety and well-being as their top concern, all offer 100% of demonstrated need etc. They actually went out of their way to NOT say any college was different from the other. If you can’t visit each campus, it’s gives you a nice overview – but you can get the same thing by looking through each colleges view-book on line.

^^ Exactly the same refrain spoken by the Yale, MIT and Brown representatives…
