Yep Carolyn and enygma, we homeschool so no invite, we registered online the day before the event here. We got a lot out of it, not specifically about each college (though that WAS interesting) but about the process in general.

desichick, I wore shorts (of course as my dd said, I'm the mom :) it was very very warm that day here. No worries - there will possibly be 1000 in the room - nobody will remember or care what you wear :)

desichick,
I took my 10th grade son to the one in our area a week or two ago. There were hundreds of people there in a giant hotel ballroom, so no one cares/notices what you look like. 10-15 minute Power Point presentations by each school. Lots of talk about their wonderful new FA initiatives. I would assume that as tokenadult says, a valuable part would be when the large group breaks down into the 5 smaller groups and you can listen to questions answered by the admissions rep which specifically relate to that school. As a 10th grader, this was my S's first experience with this sort of thing and I think that the opportunity to see these slide shows and listen to the answers to some general questions about college admissions, was a chance to make the process a bit more real for him.

Here's a link to a thread about the Exploring College Options road show and to other college road shows, current to spring and early summer 2008.

I’m bumping up this thread because this will be going on tonight. I plan to go, but I might just send my parents considering that there have been many previous posts that say CC has much more information anyway.

I went to the one they had last night. It was pretty well put together, although the information really wasn’t anything new for me (I go mostly for my mom anyway). We left during the middle of the question and answer session, because everyone asks really stupid questions like " I have a -blank- SAT score and a -blank- GPA, am I going to be accepted?". And of course, three people have to ask about each schools AP/IB credit policy. But they did have free Starbucks coffee…

I loved that roadshow! Last year, they had simply marvelous free folders. I used one for schoolwork all year long.
